Job Description
Communications & Public Affairs is looking for an experienced copywriter to write clear, concise, and engaging website copy as the College undergoes a website redesign.

The ideal candidate is passionate about crafting content that enables our visitors to understand Wellesley's academic offerings, its vibrant community, and the global impact of our alumnae. You are a team-spirited, skilled, and imaginative writer with an eye for detail. If you can grasp project requirements quickly and offer valuable insight, we'd like to meet you.

Responsibilities

  • Create and advocate for approachable language that best communicates our mission externally. Write using best practices for inclusivity and accessibility to reach users worldwide.
  • Partner with the redesign team, designers, academic departments, and other internal stakeholders on large- and small-scale content initiatives.
  • Develop frameworks, guidelines, audits, and processes to help define and improve content at Wellesley.
  • Balance customer experience and business impact with speed and quality.
  • Incorporate user research into content decisions for digital experiences.
  • Leverage principles of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to increase content reach.
  • Edit and proofread copy as needed; source images and other content.
Requirements and Skills
  • A portfolio or selection of writing samples and past work to share.
  • Demonstrated experience as a copywriter or related role, with an eye towards SEO.
  • Knowledge of online content strategy and creation.
  • Have experience writing everything a website requires, including navigation items, marketing copy, button labels, tooltips, headlines, intro copy, and error messages.
  • Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Experience working with Content Management Systems such as Drupal and Wordpress preferred.
Education Required
  • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or related field.
Experience Required
  • 5+ years writing experience, preferably for websites
Skills and Abilities Required
  • Demonstrated writing and editing ability-writing should be strategic, compelling, and persuasive
  • Outstanding storyteller
  • Strong research skills
  • Rigorous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to juggle competing priorities and conflicting deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills-must be effective at working with a variety of people and circumstances
  • Good judgment; strong sense of discretion
  • Must develop a thorough understanding of the College's mission, key messages, and visual identity
Other:
  • This position is benefits eligible.
  • This position will work 35 hours/week for a six-month term with the possibility for extension.
