PRIMARY FUNCTION
The qualified candidate will measure and publish on biophysical aspects of diversity across a gradient of cropping systems in the Midwest as part of a collaborative team of farmers, scientists, and stakeholders.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop and independently execute experimental protocols within a larger collaborative team.

• Report on research findings through team presentations, written reports, scientific meetings, public engagement, and peer-reviewed publications.

• Develop research plan to assess biophysical indicators associated with cropping system diversity across gradients of practice duration, edaphic conditions, and system complexity.

• Connect academic and public stakeholders in support of shared learning outcomes.

• Provide research and extension support to collaborative team diversifying cropping systems in the Midwest.

EDUCATION
Required: Master's in Agriculture or closely related field
Preferred: PhD in Agriculture or closely related field

EXPERIENCE
Required:
3-5 years of field experience in areas such as biodiversity, systems agronomy, or ecology
1-3 years of team science experience
Willingness or experience working with regional field research.

Preferred:
1-3 years of team management experience.
Publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Ability to design, conduct, analyze and report field experiments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES


Required: Fundamental scientific understanding of life science, nutrient cycling and mass and energy balance.
Knowledge of ecological principles of biodiversity and cropping systems.
Data management, analysis, and communication skills.
Excellent writing and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, and effective data visualization.
Self-motivated to work independently in field environments.
Ability and willingness to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and experiences to create a collaborative, collegial, and caring community.
Willingness to listen to and accept new ideas, alternatives and perspectives.

Preferred: Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, R, ArcGIS, and DayCent or APSIM ecosystem models.

APPOINTMENT STATUS
This is a 12-month, 100%-time academic professional position. This position may become permanent in the future

SALARY
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
