Visiting Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Location: Swarthmore, Pennyslvania, USA
Open Date: Nov 10, 2022
Description

The Department of Computer Science at Swarthmore College invites applications for multiple, two-year Visiting Assistant Professor positions to begin fall semester 2023. Applicants must have or expect to have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field by the position's start date. All areas of computer science will be considered. The Department welcomes candidates who conduct interdisciplinary research in the humanities and social sciences.

The Computer Science Department currently has eleven tenure-track faculty and four visiting faculty. Faculty teach introductory courses as well as advanced courses in their research areas. Visiting faculty teach the same course load as tenure-track faculty, are provided mentoring and professional development opportunities, and are eligible for funds to support research, conference travel, and student summer research.

Our department has grown significantly in both faculty and students in the last five years. Presently, we are one of the most popular majors at the College, with approximately 15-20% of the College's students earning a CS degree each year. Our majors and minors are much more diverse than the national averages in CS, and we have approximately 35% female majors.

Located in the suburbs of Philadelphia and near Wilmington DE, Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college whose mission combines academic rigor with social responsibility. Swarthmore has a strong institutional commitment to diversity, and actively seeks and welcomes applications from candidates with exceptional qualifications, particularly those with demonstrable commitments to a more inclusive society and world. Applicants from traditionally underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
