(Contingent upon available funding): 13.00 - 26.60, Hourly Work Schedule: M-F 8 am to 5 pm (hours may vary, including on call) Faculty Appt Period: Job Summary: As a member of the anesthesia technician team, this individual will provide anesthesia and sedation to patients undergoing various procedures/diagnostics in the OSU Veterinary Medical Hospital and will teach and supervise senior veterinary students in clinical anesthesia (large and small animals). This individual will rotate with the other team members to provide after hour anesthesia emergency on-call duty for both large and small animal cases (including weeknights, weekends, and holidays). Maintains cleanliness and organization of the anesthesia induction areas and equipment, responsible for supplies inventory and anesthesia equipment maintenance. Supervision of the service is provided by two board certified anesthesiologists. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 pounds occasionally. Promotional opportunities may be available through the established career development plan for veterinary technicians. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment background investigation.

Employee must be available after hours on a pre-scheduled basis for emergency duty. Compensation for after-hours technical assistance complies with university stand-by and call-in compensation policy.

Exposure to animal diseases that may be transmitted to humans. Subject to animal scratches or bites. Potential for injury when dealing with aggressive or fractious large animals. Exposed to chemicals, anesthetic agents and pharmaceuticals used in treatment of animals. Mandatory rabies pre-exposure vaccination program. Exposure medical waste, animal feces, urine, blood and vomitus. Exposure to hazardous materials such as chemotherapeutic drugs. Loud noises related to large and small animals are routine.

Minimum Qualifications:
Highschool/GED and two years of related experience; or
AssociateDegree in Veterinary Technology; or
RegisteredVeterinary Technician; or
Completed Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology and will sit for theOklahoma State Board of Veterinary Examiner's technician certification examwithin 120 days of hire; or
RegisteredVeterinary Technician, eligible for licensure in Oklahoma.

Experiencein animal restraint, administering injections, and placement of peripheral IVcatheters is essential. Knowledge of basic pharmacology and physiology,calculating drug dosages and rates, administering anesthesia, assessing patientmonitoring, and addressing changes in patient status under anesthesia andduring recovery. Knowledge of equipment used in VMH including, but not limited toanesthesia equipment, monitoring equipment, diagnostic lab equipment, personalcomputer, etc. This position is heavy in manual labor and requires the physicalability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and in excess of 50 poundsoccasionally. Must be physically capable of lifting animals weighing 50 poundsor greater onto exam tables and into elevated cages.

Preferred Qualifications:
Five years of experience devoted specificallyto veterinary anesthesia; or have acquired VTS (anesthesia).

RVT or specialist preferred but will considerassistants depending on experience or Completed Associate Degree in VeterinaryTechnology and will sit for the Oklahoma State Board of Veterinary Examiner'stechnician certification exam within 120 days of hire.
