The UHealth Tower is currently seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to work in the Department of Nuclear Medicine. The incumbent in this position works with physicians to diagnose and treat diseases or defects of the heart and blood vessels by using the echoes of sound waves to create images. The Echocardiographer is responsible for performing all cardiology procedures at a level that will require no supervision of technical detail. This position requires the employee to perform procedures using independent judgment with ingenuity, initiative, and a complete understanding of anatomy, physiology, vascular pathology and doppler principles. The sonographer is responsible to ensure that safe, timely and accurate diagnostic procedures and related services are performed in a cost effective manner within the scope of our population, by using the current ultrasound principals to aid the physicians in the diagnosis of adult, and geriatric patients. Support and be active in the department's PI projects in the department. The PI functions include: identifying areas or processes in need of improvement; developing a plan of action; implementing plan; processing and documenting results.
To ensure compliance with prevailing requirements or practices, as well as with changes in JCAHO Standards, OSHA regulations, and/or various state or federal statutes.

2. Work Experience:
Preferred minimum 3 years work experience
III. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Technical Duties: Proficient in math applications and use of spreadsheet programs; ability to operate word processing equipment; advanced written communication skills including grammar, spelling, and punctuation; thorough understanding of all regulations regarding personnel practices.
* Maintaining a good working relationship with physicians, nurses, and other ancillary departments in coordinating patient flow, problem solving, providing procedural information and result reporting. Addressing patient, staff, and physician concerns while following up with the Director, Medical Director, and Departmental Administration as required.
* The daily handling of the Echo-Pac systems, copying of studies to digital media; resolving exceptions; and image management.
* Staying abreast of new equipment and advances in equipment and products.
* Performing all procedures at a level that will require no supervision of technical detail..
* Assists in maintenance and compilation of statistical data.
* Performs other related duties incidental to the work therein.

d) Sensory Requirements: Ability to communicate with others via telephone; ability to read written documents.

o Maintains work environment in tidy safe manner. Maintains work surfaces and echo machine clean utilizing Hospital approved sanitizing wipes and cleansers.
o Uses appropriate PPD while processing dirty probes
Occupational Safety and/or Health Risks:
o Adheres to Hospital wide and department specific infection control policies
o Utilizes appropriate body ergonomics in the performance of their duty
VI. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Searches for abnormalities in blood flow sounds or heart rhythm, oxygen saturation and the appearance of heart defects or irregularities using ultrasound equipment.
* Positions patients, using immobilization when necessary, and explains procedures to patients.
* Performs the quality control functions.
* Evaluates ultrasounds for diagnostic quality.
* Prepares and sets up medical supplies using aseptic techniques.
* Develops ultrasound film and matches it with the appropriate paperwork for interpretation.
* Assists in maintenance and compilation of statistical data.
* Performs other related duties incidental to the work therein.
