Essential Function:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF POSITIONProvide support and guidance to students in the areas of retention, graduation, transfer/transition, career exploration, course selection, program navigation, financial aid, academic support, and other related student success activities. Mentors will be responsible for providing tutoring assistance. In addition, responsibilities will include providing personalized day-to-day monitoring and support to TRIO SSS participants.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION :Mentors must have earned at least 48 hours of college-level credit or an Associate DegreeEXPERIENCE:

1. Six months to one year experience in a higher education setting in educational support programming, mentoring, tutoring, serving in a student leadership role, working in the areas of registration, admissions, or financial aid or advising students who are income eligible, first generation, and or have a documented disability.
2. Mentors must have experience working with students with backgrounds similar to participants in the TRIO SSS program, understand the academic and social needs of students who are income eligible, first generation, or have a documented disability, have strong oral/written communication skills, and be personable.

KNOWLEDGE: SKILLS:

1. This position requires typing, filing, great customer service, use of Microsoft applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), and a demonstrated desire to help students.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Answer student inquiries and connect students to existing academic support, counseling, financial aid, and career services resources.
2. Submit weekly enrollment reports to Director.
3. Develops and maintains appropriate student records and documentation.
4. Provide guidance and assistance in various areas (including, but not limited to, financial aid assistance, scholarship application assistance, and tutoring).
5. Assists with other program/institutional activities related to student enrollment as needed.
6. Tutor in various subject areas such as Math, Science, and English Composition.
7. Attend staff meetings.
8. Performs all other duties as assigned.

This position may work up to 28 hours per week, depending on departmental needs. Posting Date:
