Triage Medical Assistant
Position SummaryThe Health Care Assistant is a key member of the patient care team and vital to MSU Health Care clinical operations. Under the direction of licensed healthcare professionals, the role performs a variety of clinical and administrative support tasks in the outpatient clinic. The Health Care Assistant provides support for physicians and other clinicians in the delivery of high-quality health care. This position will support front and back-office duties and triage as needed.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skillsknowledge normally acquired through a high school education; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use word processing and database software, a specified medical course such as Nurse Health Aid and Phlebotomy, or Medical Billing and Medical Terminology experience. May require knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems. May require certification as a medical assistant.
Desired Qualifications
Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; five to seven years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive Medical Assistant work experience in a medical office setting or in a clinical setting performing routine health assessment tests and triage; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require experience in the use of word processing and database software, knowledge of electronic medical record and patient scheduling systems and Medical Billing/Medical Terminology experience. Medical Assistant and BLS certification required.
Familiarity with medical terminology; experience in scheduling, screening, and confirming medical appointments using a computerized information system; current or prior experience obtaining/checking authorizations; experience scanning documents and handling a multi-line phone system. Experience in a Family Medicine office setting preferred.
