Position Summary

POSITION SUMMARY: Analyzes specifications, lays out metal stock, sets up and operates machine tools, and fits and assembles parts to fabricate and repair metal working dies, cutting tools, jigs and fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools by performing the following duties.

Essential Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, in order to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathes, milling machine and grinder, to machine parts.
  • Verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Uses measurement tools such as micrometer, caliper, pen gauge, etc. to verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.
  • Tests die for fit and mechanical function.
  • Heat treats tools or parts and tests hardness.
  • Operates die buggy to load and unload machined parts.
  • Recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of parts based on an examination of used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures.
  • Assists in die and press machine troubleshooting and maintenance on Press Floor.
  • Enters logs of all work orders into Plexus.
  • Cleans tools, equipment, machines, and work area as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • CNC milling and Wire EDM experience preferred but not required.

    Position Requirements

    ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Associate's degree (A. A.) in Machine Shop or Machine Technology or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Ability to use measurement tools such as calipers and micrometers. Knowledge of basic computer and keyboard use. Blueprint reading skill required.Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.Ability to work any continuous or fixed shift schedule including any day of the calendar week as required for operation of the position and mandatory overtime as implemented by management. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally push and/or pull more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.KEY BEHAVIORAL TRAITS FOR SUCCESS:
