Job Summary/Basic Function
The Wehrheim School of Nursing is accepting applications for a temporary, part-time instructor responsible for teaching undergraduate (RN-BSN) and graduate (MSN and DNP) courses with an academic workload of 9 credit hours, or less, per semester, and no more than three preparations per semester. Courses are taught face-to-face and in fully online modalities.

The purpose of this posting is to generate a pool of qualified faculty. Applications submitted will be reviewed on an as needed basis based on enrollment. Anyone meeting the qualifications may be contacted for an interview and potentially hired when a need exists. In the event that you are interviewed but not immediately hired, your application will remain in the department's pool of qualified faculty.

Required Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing or related discipline.
  • Active, unencumbered PA RN license (or be eligible for).
  • Evidence of ability to successfully teach diverse student populations.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet connection and personal computer.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful demonstration of ability to facilitate online learning and/or complete a clinical supervisions visit.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.



Additional Required Qualifications for FNP Program faculty:
  • Active, unencumbered PA CRNP license (or be eligible for).
  • National certification as a nurse practitioner.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in nursing (PhD or DNP) or related discipline.
  • Prior college-level teaching experience.


Job Description
TEACHING AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Temporary, part-time instructors may teach in the face-to-face or fully online environments. Campus-based programs are offered in a traditional 15 week semester, while online course are offered in an accelerated 7-week semester format. In addition to online and classroom teaching, temporary, part-time instructors who are certified nurse practitioners may also conduct clinical supervision of the FNP student/preceptor dyad.

Part-time faculty members shall maintain a prorated number of office hours each week, at a minimum of twenty-five (25) minutes for each workload hour taught, at such days, times and locations as will accommodate the needs of the students.

This position may requires in-person instruction on Millersville University’s campus or at our Central Penn location if assigned to a face-to-face course. This position is contingent upon sufficient enrollments in assigned classes.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: The Wehrheim School of Nursing is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing Commission on Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA) and offers the following degrees:
  • Fully online RN to BSN program.
  • MSN Face-to-Face Program – Family/Individual Across the Lifespan (FNP) at Millersville University and at our Harrisburg location (Central Penn College).
  • Fully online MSN tracks in FNP, Nursing Education, School Nursing, Nursing Leadership, and Nursing Informatics.
  • Fully online DNP Nurse Executive focus.
  • Fully online Telehealth certificate.


Essential Functions
  • Work is normally performed in typical office-style and/or classroom conditions; clinical supervision is conducted in clinical sites such as primary care offices, hospitals, and clinics.
  • Ability to:
    • sit or stand while teaching.
    • speak clearly.
    • communicate via writing exceptionally well
    • understand verbal communication (read and understand verbal messages).
    • stoop or bend to pick things up.


  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 10 pounds without assistance.
    • lift student paper bundles
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/pull/push heavier items with assistance.
  • Teach courses face-to-face and online at the higher education level using lectures, demonstrations, class discussion, using online tools and/or equipment and/or other appropriate tools appropriate modes of education delivery.
  • Ability to record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
  • Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
