West Virginia University Libraries, the department of WV & Regional History Center is accepting applications for a Temporary Archives Assistant.

About the Opportunity:

Under the Direction of the Head of Archives & Manuscripts, the archives assistant will:

  • Arrange archival materials to promote ease of access and use
  • Perform basic preservation measures as needed
  • Write and/or edit descriptions of archival collection materials
Work Hours: 20 hours per week (8:30AM to 4:30PM)-TBD 

Length of Assignment: 8.5 months

Pay Grade:12 (Salary starts at $13.40 per hour and will be determined based on education and experience)

What you’ll do:

50% - Under the supervision of a curator, the employee will:
  • Survey and inventory collections
  • Organize collections to the appropriate level
  • Assist with housing collections in archival containers and conducting preservation activities as needed
45% - Under the supervision of a curator, the employee will:
  • Produce inventories using Microsoft Word, Excel, and web-based archival management tools
  • Digitize and describe collection materials
5% - Other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One (1) year library or archives experience.
  • Detail oriented with an aptitude for working with information.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees inside and sometimes outside of the department.
  • Advanced computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel, library databases, and web-based applications.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and perform accurate work.
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to understand, explain, and apply rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to verify accuracy of information and resolve discrepancies.
  • Willingness to learn.
