Under general direction of the Branch Technologies Department Manager, the Technical Lead will oversee the technical aspects of deploying and maintaining our branch software and technologies by participating in architectural and design decisions, guiding other IT teams' members in technical matters, and supervising system modifications. The Technical Lead brings their expertise on hardware, applications, operating systems, security, storage, networking, monitoring, resource management, financial, in the Information Technology Division; and performs related duties as assigned.

As a working Technical Lead this position requires a high level of technical skills, supervisory of projects, and finance knowledge to be able to perform the work of those supervised when necessary combined with a high level of verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and professionalism to achieve excellent teamwork and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creating a framework of technical standards and procedures, and analyzing existing operations to identify risks and redundancies.
  • Establish, organizes, coordinates, and directs a variety of the branch IT operations that involves security, network, systems, and application deployment either hosted in the cloud or on premise, support functions of the Infrastructure Unit in the information technology division for direct company branch support.
  • Works with vendors, internal employees, and contractors across all of IT to provide a dedicated plan and company policy that suits the needs of GFL Environmental.
  • Works with the Mergers and Acquisitions Department to assess new branch needs, and make sure all branches meet the IT Infrastructure requirements on direct employee computer hardware, peripherals, and software.
  • Establish project specifications and technical direction; plans, prioritizes and manages all the IT technical phases of implementation for assigned projects; provides technical assistance and guidance; directs the design, development, and implementation of new projects; participates in budgets and timelines to implement new or enhanced equipment, systems, programs, or projects; and monitor's progress.
  • Evaluates vendor proposals for purchases of technology solutions and services to assure adherence to technical specifications and business needs.
  • Act as a liaison between ITSS, ITSD and other departments of IT Infra when needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and COMPETENCIES:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science, Business Administration, or a related field is highly desirable.
  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in planning, deployment, administration of technology infrastructure and user support with three years in a lead or supervisory role preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge in Exchange and O365.
  • Intermediate knowledge of finance and purchasing.
  • Intermediate knowledge of computer hardware and peripherals.
  • Willing to learn PowerShell and/or SQL.
  • Experience in Server Side Application Support and Maintenance.
  • Novice or intermediate knowledge of Networking Equipment.
  • Proficient in customer relations and communication.
  • Intermediate knowledge of budgeting and finance.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Barco and Logitech devices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of MFP Printers.
  • Knowledge of Facility Security and Surveillance Systems.
  • Ability to conduct research into application development issues and products, and cloud-based support monitoring applications.
  • Strong competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.
  • High willingness to drive transformation and service improvement.
  • Capability for problem solving, decision making, sound judgment, assertiveness.
  • Work experience in a related industry setting is a plus.
  • Work experience at an IT service provider is a plus (managerial and/or delivery level.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

On a continuous basis, sit at a desk for long periods of time in front of a computer screen; intermittently twist to reach equipment or supplies surrounding desk; perform simple grasping and fine manipulation; use telephone and computer keyboard daily; use telephone and computer keyboard on a daily basis and other duties as assigned.
