Overview

Assist in the preparation of tax research, planning, and compliance required of a multinational insurance holding company, related property and casualty insurance companies, and non-insurance subsidiaries that through its insurance carriers, offers specialty property and casualty insurance products, including workers' compensation, commercial automobile and general liability insurance, and extended service and warranty coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparation of corporate insurance tax returns and supporting workpapers (insurance income tax returns, franchise, annual reports, excise, state income tax returns and premium tax returns, both annually and quarterly).
  • Responsible for timely filing of occupational license taxes and municipal tax returns for insurance companies.
  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual income tax provision for insurance subsidiaries in accordance with ASC 740 (formerly Statement 109: Accounting for Income Taxes) and SSAP 101 (Statement of Statutory Accounting Principles No. 101)
  • Assist in the preparation of footnote disclosures for quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and Statutory Accounting
  • Responsible for researching and responding to state, local and premium tax notices.
  • Responsible for coordination and assistance of federal and state tax examinations by various tax authorities.
  • Maintain relationships with various taxing authorities and insurance tax departments regarding various corporate income and insurance tax issues.
  • Reconcile and prepare analysis on general ledger tax accounts for insurance companies.
  • Maintain federal and state income tax software system for all companies.
  • Maintain state premium tax software system for insurance companies.
  • Update and integrate company financial computer applications to company's tax compliance procedures. "Attaching" OneSource tax software to company general ledger system (Oracle).
  • Maintain tax compliance calendar and audit schedules, updating as needed.
  • Responsible for tax research and planning.
  • Keep current regarding federal and state income tax laws and insurance tax laws.
  • Experience in dealing with insurance taxation preferred but not required
  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax or similar tax preparation software
  • Experience with Premium Pro Enterprise or similar tax preparation software
  • Experience with OneSource Provision (formerly TaxStream)
  • Organized individual with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to complete thorough workpapers supporting various tax returns

Qualifications

  • Experience with OneSource Income Tax or similar tax preparation software.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Organized individual with an attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively in order to meet deadlines
  • Ability to complete thorough workpapers supporting various tax returns
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Advanced training indicated by CPA designation or Masters of Tax preferred but not required
  • 2+ of tax experience in public accounting or in industry or an equivalent combination of experience is necessary
