Office of Information Technology has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) System Monitoring Admin position.

The System Monitoring Administrator will coordinate with systems engineers, application technical support analysts and developers to determine requirements for events, alerts, dashboards and also reporting in various monitoring tools.

This position is responsible for creating monitors emulating customers usage to multiple key systems from a public web perspective while also assessing potential issues relating to critical IT applications, systems and devices.

The System Monitoring Administrator will monitor incoming alerts using various tools and perform actions based on predefined instructions, as well as educate other technical team-members in active and timely response to events.

Job Duties/Essential Functions

    Creates synthetic end to end monitoring, emulating key customer usage from a web user perspective. Creates and maintains reports, team automation and miscellaneous scripts. Builds, maintains, and manages a system dashboard, integrating multiple monitoring tools utilized across OIT. Participates in the ongoing process of investigating, troubleshooting, and providing resolution to technical issues in a 24x7x365 environment. Stays informed of production changes that could affect functionality and alerting. Ability to coordinate across teams, working closely with peers to ensure the appropriate focus and sense of urgency is applied to all issues. Accurately troubleshoots, reproduces, and documents issues and other pertinent information in Incident or Problem tickets. Creates and maintains knowledge base article content. Handles ad hoc monitoring requests and take on new procedures as required. Excellent customer service and team collaboration skills.

Entry Level Systems Monitoring Administrator

Education
    Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Education, or a closely related field Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree. An associate's degree with two years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree

Experience
    0-1 year experience building, maintaining, and validating synthetic monitors and / or experience in monitoring response, triage and repair. 0-1 years of experience working as a technical Application Administrator, Systems Administrator or Lab Administrator in technically complex, highly integrated, and redundant environments.

Preferred Requirements
    2 years full-time experience as a Systems Monitoring Administrator or Application and Performance Monitoring (APM) Administrator Successful working history in IT for Higher Education Experience with diverse best in class synthetic monitoring tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, AppDynamics Familiarity with other enterprise monitoring tools, such as Splunk, Nagios, Solarwinds Experience with gathering monitoring requirements and determining appropriate alerting thresholds with technical response teams Experience with Disaster Recovery Plans and / or Continuity Planning Experience understanding complex environments with interrelated applications and systems.

Intermediate Systems Monitoring Administrator

Education
    Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Education, or a closely related field Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree. An associate's degree with two years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree

Experience
    1-2 years' experience building, maintaining, and validating synthetic monitors with diverse, best in class synthetic monitoring tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, AppDynamics 1-2 years of experience working as a technical Application Administrator in technically complex, highly integrated, and redundant environments.

Preferred Requirements
    4 years full-time experience as a Systems Monitoring Administrator or Application and Performance Monitoring (APM) Administrator Successful working history in IT for Higher Education Familiarity with other enterprise monitoring tools, such as Splunk, Nagios, Solarwinds Experience with gathering monitoring requirements and determining appropriate alerting thresholds with technical response teams Experience with Disaster Recovery Plans and / or Continuity Planning Experience understanding complex environments with interrelated applications and systems.

Senior Systems Monitoring Administrator

Education
    Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, Business, Education, or a closely related field Substitution: 4 years of professional or high-level technical work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree. An associate's degree with two years of relevant work experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree

Experience
    2-4 years' experience building, maintaining, and validating synthetic monitors with diverse, best in class synthetic monitoring tools such as Datadog, Dynatrace, AppDynamics 2-4 years of experience working as a technical Application Administrator in technically complex, highly integrated, and redundant environments. 2 years' experience with developing and implementing complex / dependency driven alerting plans, and coordination of response with direct technical teams.

Preferred Requirements
    4 years full-time experience as a Systems Monitoring Administrator or Application and Performance Monitoring (APM) Administrator Successful working history in IT for Higher Education Familiarity with other enterprise monitoring tools, such as Splunk, Nagios, Solarwinds Experience with gathering monitoring requirements and determining appropriate alerting thresholds with technical response teams Experience with Disaster Recovery Plans and / or Continuity Planning Experience understanding complex environments with interrelated applications and systems.

    Conditions of Employment:

    This position may require some occasional weekend and evening assignments as well as occasional availability during off-hours for participation in both scheduled and unscheduled activities.

    This position is eligible for full-remote, hybrid, or on-site working locations. The work schedule will be based around core working hours in Colorado Mountain Time.

    Salary and Benefits:

    The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at:
    • Entry: $55,000 - $67,000
    • Professional: $64,000 - $77,000
    • Senior: $73,000 - $90,000
