General Summary/Overview Statement

Enterprise Medical Imaging (EMI) is expanding a new service to support the development, implementation and maintenance of complex applications in support of integrating Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning into the clinical environment; leveraging technology to improve patient care.

The EMI Infrastructure team provides 24-hour support and identifies infrastructure technologies and services as a component of the overall architecture to address clinical & research imaging goals across MGB. The infrastructure includes both internal department and MGB hosted services, virtualization, server hardware and operating systems, storage, database, image archive, and surrounding management and monitoring of those technologies. The team is responsible for the planning and implementation of the architecture, while contributing to the roadmap of imaging departments to ensure strategy and technology are aligned. This includes design, deployment and maintenance. The team is also accountable for provisioning new infrastructure, inventory management, patch management, automation, departmental collaboration, and vendor relationships.

The EMI Systems Engineer will:

Take direction from the EMI Senior Manager

Help support and maintain the MGB (Massachusetts General Brigham) development and clinical imaging infrastructure and associated research (industry & internal) labs

Work closely with a variety of MGB personnel, including, but not limited to, other IS staff, researchers, Application Analysts, subject matter experts and software developers.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The System Support Specialist in conjunction with the EMI infrastructure team will advise application owners and other support groups of system infrastructure issues.

Assist with planning and recommends server and storage infrastructure modifications or additional equipment/software to increase system capacities.

Analyze the results of server monitoring and recommends changes to improve performance, processing and utilization.

Respond to user's requests for direct support of applications troubleshooting - assist users to install, configure and/or script informatics tools and applications, understand and guide work and data flows for their analysis.

Linux, UNIX and Windows administration

Evolution and support of the existing complex geographically separated virtualization environment that includes much of the VMware stack and many add-on technologies for items, such as synchronous\asynchronous replication, backup, monitoring, provisioning...

Participate in 24/7/365 support for imaging systems (only Clinical Production systems)

Manage vendor technical relationships (planning, installing, and maintaining installed systems)

Develop code as necessary to enhance workflows and system supportability

Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications
BS in a IT program or equivalent experience in a IT healthcare environment

3+ years mix of development and management of Linux and Microsoft Servers in Hyper- and converged environments (VMware) - including demonstrable experience in configuring and supporting Linux & Windows systems

3+ years of strong scripting (MS PowerShell, BASH...)

Programming experience (Dot Net, Python, C++ or other...) a strong plus

3+ years of virtualization experience - VMware & Docker/Singularity experience desired

Experience with relational databases required

Advanced experience with MS SQL Server 2014 - 2019 strongly desired

Knowledge of columnar, time series or DB types a plus

Demonstrable experience in managing storage - from transactional to archiving - backups to disaster recovery (knowledge of tape and cloud)Demonstrable experience in converged infrastructure (Dell/EMC - vRail, vRack, AS800.... or equivalent)

Data center/operations experience

Working knowledge/experience in enterprise network technologies - a strong plus

Knowledge of:

Management tools such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Kickstart etc, and provisioning (as well as PXE)

Computational clusters (CPU & GPU), HPC and/or grid computing a plus

Nvidia DGX Servers and GPU's (unique data center requirements)

Scheduling systems (Slurm, Swarm, or other)

Off-prem DC operations (Azure experience a plus)

DR (Disaster Recovery) strategies for irreplaceable data

Radiology Operations and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) a plus

Experience supporting/developing informatics systems in healthcare strongly preferred.

Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required

Ability to support other DB technologies (MySQL, InfluxDB, Etc)

Ability to work independently, and ability to multitask and prioritize work requirements with minimal supervision.

Ability to work in teams and be responsive to the project manager

Strong commitment to customer service.

Comfortable working in a dynamic environment and developing flexible solutions to meet evolving requirements-- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with technical teams, cross-functional teams, and staff at all levels of the organization including both technical and non-technical personnel

Ability to successfully negotiate and collaborate with others of different skill sets, backgrounds, and levels within and external to the organization

Working Conditions

Remote Work with the required travel to Mass General Brigham locations.

May need to work in patient care areas

Requires 24X7 responsibilities including evening, night and weekend hours as needed.
