Applications are accepted on a continual basis and kept on file for Part Time Clinical Instructor in our Respiratory Therapy programs. Clinical Instructors work on an as needed basis, will adhere to the aforementioned mission statement, and will perform duties primarily related to the instruction of courses in assigned subject matter areas.

GENERAL QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Required: Associate's Degree Respiratory Care (CRT) with multiple years of clinical experience may be considered.
  • Preferred: National Licensing (RRT)

CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

  • Required: Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) Certification to practice as a Respiratory Therapist.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

  • Respiratory Therapist experience in the clinical area in which one is teaching.
  • Evidence of competence in therapy skills.
  • Evidence of continued education.
  • Evidence of competence in patient care.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Routine visits to assigned clinical sites. (A minimum of: 1 visit/week in Fall, 2 visits/week in Spring and 2 visits/week in Summer)
  • Adequate time spent with each student to ensure completion of clinical objectives.
  • Direct supervision of students performing respiratory care procedures.
  • Simulation of respiratory care procedures in clinical site as needed.
  • Review clinical learning objectives.
  • Assure satisfactory completion and validate all day clinical experiences by program students.
  • Counsel students on professional behavior.
  • Be available for RSPT1410 and RSPT 1411 laboratory (M &/or W 1000- 1200)
  • Clinical Liaison - Maintain a working relationship with the Director of Clinical Education (DCE) and other clinical preceptors at the assigned clinical affiliation site.
  • Regularly attend clinical faculty meetings with the DCE and Program Director.
  • Discuss emergent situations at clinical sites with the Program Director and/or DCE immediately.
  • Relay clinical affiliation site status and changes to the program.
  • If attendance to clinical staff meetings is not possible, a report on students will be necessary for the meeting minutes received by fax, e-mail or phone correspondence.
  • Demonstrate a professional cooperative attitude toward the student, clinical site staff and program personnel.
  • Demonstrate and maintain competence in the use of instructional technology/electronic health records.
  • Attend briefings on clinical procedures and general program policy.

  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to deal with people in a professional manner.
  • Able to stand for long periods, to walk long distances, and to lift 50 lbs.
  • Aware of an environment where there is a potential exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Daytime, evening, early morning, and weekend work may be required.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time, and be able to move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Environment: This job may operate in a variety of clinical settings.

Salary: Amarillo College Staff Salary Schedule grade 10
