The Office of the Dean of Students is a department within the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Diversity. The Office of the Dean of Students promotes student growth and leadership development through teaching, advising and intentional personal interactions. The Office of the Dean of Students staff encourages and facilitates opportunities for students to connect and engage in the campus community while striving to provide a safe and inclusive campus environment. In addition, the office supports the Associate Vice President and Dean of Students in serving as Liaison to the College of Education for the purposes of coordinating Graduate Student Assistants and Graduate Interns from the Masters' Degree in Postsecondary Educational Leadership, Specialization in Student Affairs.
Under the guidance from the Director for the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life and the indirect supervisor of the Director of Well-being and Health Promotion and the Director for the Center for Student Organizations & Activities, the Student Life Health and Safety Coordinator has responsibility for developing and implementing programs focused on well-being, health, and safety. Through programming, engagement, and comprehensive advising, the Student Life Health and Safety Coordinator supports student development and success. The incumbent provides guidance and mentoring, through programming and advising efforts, to enhance student engagement, pride, clarification of personal values, and sense of community.
The Student Life Health and Safety Coordinator will possess the necessary experience to effectively complete program-related tasks and projects assigned by the appropriate administrator, as well as provide back-up generalist support to other program coordinators within the office, including the Center for Student Organizations and Activities, the Center for Fraternity & Sorority Life, the Glazer Center for Leadership and Service, the Center for Commuter Life and the Well-being and Health Promotion Department. The incumbent will possess the ability to work evening and weekend as a routine part of this position.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, temporary position anticipated to end on or before June 30, 2023, with the possibility of reappointment and/or permanency. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
This position is physically located at the SDSU Main Campus in San Diego.
Education and Experience
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate course work in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources. Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,691 per month.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,691 - $6,683 per month.
SDSU Vaccine Policy
In accordance with the California State University system wide policy, students, faculty, and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a valid medical or religious exemption in order to access campus. Individuals are considered fully vaccinated for five months after their final dose of a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine or for two months after receiving the only dose of a single-dose vaccine. Afterward a COVID-19 booster is required to continue to be considered fully vaccinated.
The individual hired into this role will be required to submit their completed vaccination documentation to the university's secure online health portal prior to beginning work. Individuals with an approved medical or religious exemption on file with the university will be required to participate in SDSU's COVID-19 testing program.
