The staff scientist will work with our project managers to conduct field work and prepare deliverables for numerous projects involving environmental remediation services in New Jersey, throughout the Mid-Atlantic area, and across the country.

A DAY IN THE LIFE

As a key member of the Montrose team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:

  • Work effectively, both independently and collaboratively with peers, seniors and our clients to build and strengthen relationships
  • Be present and engaged in team and client meetings, and share ideas
  • Conduct environmental investigation and remediation field work, including soil, surface water and groundwater sampling
  • Oversee subcontractors as part of site characterization activities
  • Assist with research and data collection efforts as requested by project managers
  • Plan and procure all necessary equipment for project execution
  • Responsible for the preparation and completion of project deliverables
  • Participate in emergency response services including sub-contractor oversight and field sampling
  • Be knowledgeable of regulatory standards in environmental technical areas of responsibility
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times, both within Montrose and for our clients and affiliates
  • Exercise safe work practices by following all Company safety rules and OSHA regulations, including completion of all required safety training programs
  • Participate in the company's continuous improvement programs and provide support to team efforts
  • Complete scientific analysis under direct supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS

To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental/Earth Sciences, Geology, Engineering or related field from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 0 to -3 years of environmental related experience including demonstrated progress in consulting (including college work-study and internships)
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability/willingness to travel
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Solid organization and time management skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Software
  • Prior environmental consulting experience with industrial, commercial, municipal, and federal clientele is a plus
  • 40-Hr OSHA HAZWOPER Training is a plus
  • Must be able to successfully complete a medical exam designed to evaluate the ability to perform physical requirements of the position (e.g. bending, kneeling, standing, confined space entry, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 30 pounds) with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
  • Must have a valid driver's license
