Primary Function of Position:
 

Intuitive Surgical, Inc. produces the Ion Bronchoscopy system, a minimally invasive robotic catheter system that accesses deep into the lungs and offers treatment not possible with conventional tools

The Senior New Product Development manager will lead catheter design and test engineers to design and develop new and derivative flexible instruments and/or accessories through all stages of the product development process with the emphasis being on the later design control phases. He/She must take products from early stage investigations and work through the design and development process and drive a robust design mindset in the team. He/She will partner with the project managers to ensure project teams are staffed for success and be prepared to step in personally when necessary to ensure projects stay on track for successful launch.

Role & Responsibilities:

 

  • Lead the NPD team through all development phases from concept to design transfer for new products or upgrades to existing products.
  • Work with product roadmap team and our customers to ensure requirements are defined, understood and translated into engineering specifications
  • Provide oversight to ensure NPD projects remain on schedule and on budget while meeting all performance, cost and quality specifications as applicable.
  • The NPD manager will be expected to support field investigations and manage sustaining projects as necessary in parallel to product development activities.
  • The NPD manager will be responsible for developing and empowering the NPD Engineering team, retaining and developing diverse talent and maintaining an innovative, collaborative and inclusive culture.
  • All work to be completed per applicable quality and regulatory requirements.

 

 

Skills, Experience, Education, & Training:

  • Minimum BS in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or related engineering or scientific discipline required, MS or Higher Preferred.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience developing commercial medical products
  • Proven experience of at least 5 years as a manager.
  • Experience as a technical lead owning all deliverables on catheter-based products is required
  • Expert in all phases of the product development lifecycle including requirements definition, prototyping, implementation, debug, risk management, verification and transfer to Manufacturing.
  • Expertise in achieving results in a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Self-motivated and independent thinker with ability to work independently without significant direction.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a passion for driving execution at a detail level when necessary while maintaining the ability to see the big picture.
