About the role

This role is responsible for leading the Automation Engineering & Shared Services team for Gap Tech which includes: Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD); Infrastructure Automation and Applications Automation; Engineering Collaboration and Metrics, Monitoring and Logging teams. This leader will work closely with and manage engineering staff both in SF and Hyderabad Development Center (HDC) to support the goals and objectives of the business. The role must be capable of working in a matrixed organization and coordinating the delivery of multiple outcomes concurrently and will be hands-on in terms of design, architecture and development and will lead the team from front in any critical situation.

This leader must be collaborative, transformative (not afraid to speak and challenge the status quo) and must understand how their products impact the apps dev product team that they support and partner with. This leader must also be capable in building relationships with TechOps peers and other engineering leadership to socialize and enable the product and services that they provide.

As a people leader first and a delivery manager second, this leader must build, inspire and lead the technical teams. This individual will have spent a majority of their career leading and managing efforts to improve system availability and consistency, and increased operations efficiency in partnership with other GapTech teams. This role will be the centralized owner for driving and evangelizing SW engineering frameworks for infrastructure including but not limited to: infrastructure as code, standard infra development languages to use, code reviews, code version control, unit, and end to end automated testing. This role will drive adherence to sprint and/or project milestones, including implementing appropriate corrective actions when progress deviates from the plan.

What you'll do

• Identifies, recommends, and drives multi-year Automation technology development strategies to address business needs and unlocks business capabilities
• Translates the company/area strategic vision into actionable goals and activities for teams
• Drives and builds continual improvements into goals and yearly plans
• Actively engages with our product engineering teams in GapTech to help land strategic efforts including Automation, Collaboration tool rationalization and consumption, Cloud migration and modernization
• Manage matrixed teams to deliver against team goals and objectives; define an operating model that works for teams in different locations including the Hyderabad Development Center (HDC)
• Effectively innovate and operate outside the comfort zone of established methods and procedures
• Hire, mentor, coach and manage high performing teams based out of SF and India

Who you are

• 12+ years of leadership experience in managing cross-functional teams and direct management of teams with at least 8+ years of experience in an Engineering Leadership role building and managing high performing teams
• Proven experience in infrastructure and application automation technologies with emphasis on retail, e-commerce, mobile, and material handling and other relevant logistics/supply chain technologies/platforms
• Demonstrated progressive leadership responsibilities in a large-scale Unix/Oracle 24x7 international production environment
• Experience with DevOps approach in running superior service operations & delivery function focusing on developer enablement capabilities as a product
• Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery and engineering collaboration tools such as GitHub, Jekins/PIPES, Chef, Artifactory SaaS, JFrog, Sonar, JIRA, Confluence, and ServiceNow – or equivalent
• Demonstrated ability to create and evangelize tools and automation roadmap, prioritize tasks or projects to align with the strategic objectives and with business goals; ability to assign recurring tasks and to utilize metrics to measure the effectiveness
• Thorough understanding of operational support processes, excellent business acumen and ability to direct the team in dissecting and diagnosing complex problems; effectively managing relationships with a broad and diverse group of business partners; comfortably interacts and presents ideas and concepts to senior management
• Excellent communications skills and not afraid to speak, challenge status quo collaboratively, and/ or to transform
• Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology
