Vertiv is hiring a Senior Buyer/Buyer in Delaware, OH to perform the necessary strategic/tactical activities related to the timely acquisition of materials and effective flow of communication and associated information. Performs necessary activities in accordance with Vertiv's standard Procurement processes while providing support to operations ensuring all metrics are met. Candidate will drive and implement process improvements, system enhancements and continue to improve productivity and efficiency within this function. Responsible for securing the necessary materials to meet the material needs of customer demand.

Preferred characteristics:

  • 3-5 years direct Buying experience in a mid to large size, fast-paced company
  • Demonstrated leadership characteristics (may be called upon to lead others directly/ indirectly)

  • Degreed (preference for 4yr degree in supply chain, operations, business, technical degrees
Primary Responsibilities

• Tactical creation and issuance of purchase orders to approved suppliers based on ERP system demand

• Maintains accurate purchase order delivery dates in MRP system

• Expedite material as needed to support production needs driven by customer demand; defer material deliveries as appropriate to support inventory optimization plan.

• Coordinate information between suppliers, Demand Planning & Commodity Management; provide material availability, pricing, and shipping information.

• Reviews inventory levels on a regular basis and takes actions to optimize accordingly. Communicates re-occurring demand shortages and overages to Demand Planner for planning review.

• Resolves supplier-caused receiving problems, invoice holds, and payment issues prior to escalation. Works with Material Handling/Inventory team to resolve inventory discrepancies.

• Examines Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) as needed to ensure adherence to preferred supplier list (PSL) and supplier readiness

• Meet with local suppliers to meet the supply needs of the business.

• Negotiates price and terms on spot buys.

• Requests quotations for new and inactive parts from preferred supplier list

• Creates debit memos and shippers as required

• Verifies purchasing item master data, including supplier contact, ship-to address, baseline price

• Acts as first line of defense in denying any price increases. Communicates supplier price change requests to Commodity Management.

• Participates supplier business reviews and provides input to Commodity Manager on plant, inventory, communication, and other business-related needs

• Follows purchase price variance (PPV), spot buy, and premium freight approval processes to minimize cost to the business

• Actively participate is supplier transition teams to ensure smooth transitions

• Recommend and provide feedback on inventory replenishment systems as well as consignment and other Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) programs

• Ensure suppliers are following pricing and lead time commitments; escalate unresolved discrepancies to Commodity Management

• Liaise between Supplier Quality and supplier to bridge gaps in supply caused by material quality issues

• Other Duties as assigned

Experience, Education and Certifications

• 3-5 years of experience buying and procuring materials

• Bachelor's degree required or relevant work experience

• APICS (American Production and Inventory Control Society) and/or ISM (Institute of Supply Management) trained/certification preferred

Other Skills

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Excellent customer service skills

• Excellent organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills

• Detail-oriented

• Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment

• Proficient in MS Office

• Experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred

• Understanding of business financials
