Sr. Associate Director Full Time MBA Program and Advising
We are seeking a Senior Associate Director who is responsible for the enhancement and oversight of the full-time MBA (FTMBA), the Carey Business School's flagship academic program. Additionally, this position is responsible for the oversight of our FTMBA-aligned dual degree programs. The Sr. Associate Director will collaborate with the Faculty Academic Program Director (APD) in matters such as curriculum oversight, annual program reviews, and overall strategic direction of the program.

The Sr. Associate Director will be the primary point of contact for FTMBA students and work to ensure that they receive full academic life cycle support through exemplary service from the time of admission through their transition to alumni. The Sr. Associate Director will provide guidance to the Assistant Director of Programs & Advising to ensure student satisfaction as progress is made towards completion of degree requirements. In collaboration with centers of excellence such as the Career Development Office (CDO) and Office of Experiential Learning (OEL), the Sr. Associate Director will plan programming activities to enhance the educational experience, manage the program budget, serve as a back-up advisor to students, and act the first point of escalation in student concern matters.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Programming

  • Develop and implement new strategies to provide co-curricular offerings both in- person and virtually, as appropriate, in collaboration with student experience centers of excellence such as Career Development Office, Office of Experiential Learning, Student Affairs, and Academic Enrichment.
  • Manage the program budget under the leadership of the Sr. Director of Academics and provide recommendations for overall FTMBA annual budget and projections.
  • Provide support to students as a leading member of the student experience team centers of excellence (CDO, OEL, Student Affairs, Academic Enrichment, Recordsy & Registration, Admissions).
  • Work closely with the APD, FTMBA faculty, Academic Advisor(s), school leadership, and other members of the Academics team to evaluate and advise on long-range planning, program changes, and strategies.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Admissions, Carey Operations staff, and Development & Alumni Relations on engagement and promotional activities related to the FTMBA program.
  • As the face of the program, participate in Admissions activities, provide a comprehensive programmatic orientation and work closely with Academic Enrichment on content for Foundations Week.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the internal and external academic partners in our dual degree programs aligned with the FTMBA.
  • In collaboration with the Career Development Office and Development & Alumni relations, provide oversight to the NEXT Mentoring program.
  • Provide support and guidance to the Assistant Director of Programs & Advising to ensure all students meet curricular requirements.
  • Manage annual review process for the FTMBA program in coordination with the APD. Design program assessment and evaluation tools, track and document program progress, challenges, and areas for improvement. Benchmark findings against competitor programs. Regularly present relevant findings to leadership making recommendations for changes as appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison among teaching faculty, Office of Education & Partnerships leadership, and students.
  • Ensure equity and belonging for all students within FTMBA program in partnership with the Sr. Associate Director of DEIB Programs and Office of Student Affairs. Effectively address DEIB concerns and refer students when issues arise.

Advising/Leadership
  • Responsible for managing the Assistant Director of Programs & Advising for the FTMBA program. Includes hiring, training and development, workflow/assignments, coaching and counseling, and the full cycle of performance management.
  • Serves as next level escalation point for student concerns. Liaises with APD and Director of Records and Registration to resolve complex advising and academic issues.
  • Assists staff to resolve problems and improve service to FTMBA students.
  • Leads initiatives to improve advising processes based on data and student feedback
  • Work with APD and Assistant Director to develop, implement, and evaluate goals and strategies that support the mission and vision of the team, as well as initiatives and strategies focused on student success and retention
  • Develop, implement, and assess advising interventions and programming to address factors that influence student persistence and degree completion to include development of referral process to coordinate accessing support resources such as the Student Success Center and Disability services.
  • Run student status reports every semester to identify stop-out students and take appropriate action, including contacting the student and alerting the advisor.
  • Ensure accurate and appropriate disposition of withdrawn student files.


Other Duties as Assigned
  • In coordination with the APD, provide strategic insight to school leadership on the future direction of the program.
  • Serve on school-wide committees and attend major campus events (i.e., graduation, summer intensive, Career Development events, etc.) as needed.
  • Provide support to other programs as needed.
  • Occasional travel to Washington DC campus.
  • Other duties as needed.


Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
  • Master's Degree or Ph.D. from a regionally accredited college or university required.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in all aspects of academic program administration, additional experience may substitute for the graduate degree up to the equivalency of the JHU formula.*


* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • An MBA or a Master's Degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field.
  • Experience working with business school students, preferably MBA students.
  • Academic advising or student affairs experience.
  • Experience working with an international student population a plus.

  • Ability to set goals for self and direct reports, develop strategies for meeting goals, and achieve them with minimal oversight.
  • Leadership development or teaming training.
  • Knowledge of program budget development and management.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to effectively hire, train and develop staff.
  • Proactive in terms of seeking information to keep current on changes in procedures, requirements, etc. and developing proposed solutions for challenges encountered.
  • Strong attention to detail and highly organized.
  • Ability to effectively delegate and disseminate work among team members.
  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the use of MS Office Suite software for corresponding, analysis, information storage, and presentation.
  • Excellent meeting planning and logistics management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills including the ability to lead a meeting, produce and present information both in-person and in a virtual environment, and excellent writing skills. Must be comfortable in communicating with faculty, staff and students, as well industry representatives. Ability to communicate clearly, persuasively, accurately, and concisely.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willing to contribute wherever needed to ensure team success.


Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Directly manage 1 exempt staff; 1 non-exempt staff.


Budget Authority:
  • Authority to independently manage budget for assigned program(s).

Starting Salary Range: $61,550 - $84,700 annually (commensurate with experience)
