The primary responsibility will be assisting the Director of Sports Science on all football sports science initiatives. This position reports directly to the Director of Sports Science. This opportunity will provide a wholistic understanding of sports science operations and opportunity to work collaboratively with the following roles at the University of Miami: Sports Performance Coaches, Athletic Trainers, Nutritionists, Coaching Staff, and Physical Therapists. The position is designed to prepare the candidate with the skillset to move on to a full-time team sports science director position by understanding the role of Sport Science to help inform decision making. Additionally, learning how to both theoretically and practically utilize and integrate the use of various technologies in the context of collegiate football.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the processes associated with the use of technology, including GPS distribution, live analysis of GPS data during training, and post-training download/analysis.
  • Assist in the collection of various data inputs including: Force Plates, VBT units and Dynaspeed.
  • Assist in necessary tasks for the preparation of training and team lifts.
  • Assisting to maintain organization and cleanliness of sports science equipment and infrastructure.
  • Will be asked to lead periodic continuing education sessions for performance staff in services throughout the course of the apprenticeship.

Work Experience
  • 2 years of work experience in a Sports Science role
  • NSCA Certified Performance and Sport Scientist (CPSS)
  • Bachelors or master's degree from an institution of higher education in biomechanics or related field.

Requirements
  • Demonstrated some experience or degree in a field such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, operations research, data science, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or kinesiology.
  • Demonstrated some ability to solve problems in a data-driven way.
  • Passion for sports analytics and/or biomechanics.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language

Preferred Experience

We are looking for a variety of skill sets. If you have demonstrated experience with any of the following, you may be who we are looking for.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a biomechanics scripting language
  • Demonstrated experience working with biomechanics data in sport or another application area.
  • Demonstrated experience with signal processing techniques.
  • Knowledge of publicly available biomechanics research and technologies.
  • Demonstrated biomechanics research experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with database languages.
