The Environment Health & Safety Specialist II will provide technical EHS support to site management staff in its efforts to prevent worker injuries and comply with environmental regulations. Develop, maintain, and ensure site compliance with governmental regulations and company EHS programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate site leadership and staff on their role in proactively managing EHS activities for their areas responsibility
  • Partner with leadership to develop and achieve annual EHS goals
  • Research, plan and promote EHS awareness through specific training programs which includes safety and environmental orientation content, monthly safety training, and weekly/daily safety training
  • Complete routine EHS audits, assign and drive corrective actions to closure
  • Create/update JSA's and ensure results are incorporated into job training
  • Maintain effective and timely communication with regards to EHS suggestions, concerns, and corrective/preventative actions
  • Understand Federal and State of Minnesota environmental and occupational safety and health regulations ensuring compliance, and implementing regulatory changes as they occur
  • Responsible for all environmental recordkeeping and administration. This includes: Ensuring compliance with all permits and exclusions (air, storm water, waste water, hazardous waste, Tier II) operating conditions and regulatory standards.
  • Incorporate Lean Methods to drive improvements in proactive EHS performance
  • Coordinate workers' compensation claims management
  • Review injury, illness, and hazardous conditions and near-miss incident investigation reports and follow-up with complete corrective action
  • Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping and annual safety calendar of activities
  • Facilitate regulatory visits and inspections
  • Direct activities of safety committee, medical response team, and conduct emergency response drills
  • Manage chemical safety program
  • Coordinate ergonomics program
  • Manage budget, timetables and oversee completion of EHS work
  • All other tasks and projects as assigned

JOB DIMENSIONS
  • Report directly to Corporate EHS Director with dotted line reporting to the site Operations Director
  • Office at the Toro manufacturing facility in Shakopee, Minnesota
  • Perform as a team with site EHS specialists at other corporate locations
  • Must be able to achieve corporate and site EHS objectives through influence

SPECIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or in a related field. Advanced degree and/or EHS certification a plus.
  • 5 plus years of EHS experience in a machining environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with customers (internal and external) both in one-on-one and through large group presentations
  • Able to collect data and analyze it to use as a tool to improve EHS performance
  • Highly self-motivated, ability to work under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple objective concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to maintain composure during high stress situations, remaining focused on the ultimate objective
  • Able to work effectively and diplomatically with people at various levels of the organization
  • Capacity to work independently as well as within a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office
