About this position

Your role as a Small Business Accountant / Client Accounting Services Professional is to help our small and medium clients with their client accounting needs and to work with business owners to clean up and maintain their accounting. Additionally, you will have opportunities to perform small business controllership consulting such as helping streamline the clients accounting, improve processes, identify areas that can be automated by our QBO technologist, evaluate fraud prevention controls and more.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties
  • Help multiple clients by performing a full breadth of accounting support duties ranging from;
    • Full charge management accounting ranging from coaching solely performing the month end close (small business outsourced Controller) to advising a client's accounting team as to how to improve.
    • Accounting support duties which may include but not be limited to transaction entries (e.g. sales), accounts payables and receivables, accruals (if/as needed), using an automated AP workflow system, etc.
    • Performing or advising clients on all or selected regular reconciliations of balance sheet accounts and retained earnings roll forwards.
    • If needed assist clients with the use of an outsourced payroll system and related matters (for example W-2s, etc).
    • Various compliance filings (for example 571s, 1099s, etc).
    • Under guidance and direction of our Client Accounting Services (CAS) manager, assist in automating small business client accounting workflows.
  • Help establish controls and methods for performing outsourced accounting.
  • Utilize primarily QuickBooks and QBO (as the primary client-used accounting system) and on special circumstances other accounting systems as needed.
  • Although most QBO related client accounting work can be done remote, some of the small business consulting work requires on site effort which may involve travel to any So Cal office area and occasionally travel outside CA.
  • Interact well with clients and the greater CBIZ team.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience successfully stepping into accounting clean up situations.
  • Previous experience with outsourced accounting on multiple clients is helpful but not required.
  • Two year degree, accounting certificate, or Four year degree helpful but not required.
  • Prefer but not required CPA, CMA also helpful but not required.
  • Experience in biotech, technology, real estate and light manufacturing all a plus.
  • QBDT, and QBO Certifications are helpful but not required upon hiring but may be required within 12 months of hiring.

Minimum Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or GED required along with 2 years of full charge bookkeeping experience.
  • Track record of success in past roles
  • Ability to manage time and deadlines effectively.
  • Being a great communicator.
  • Proficient use of applicable systems and ability to learn as technology changes.
  • Quickly learn and navigate different accounting programs.
  • Strong management accounting (accrual based) / bookkeeping skills.
