NASCAR seeks a talented professional to join in the position of Simulation Engineer, Safety based in Concord, NC.

The Simulation Engineer, Safety primarily supports LS-DYNA based simulations for the advancement of motorsport safety. This position will work on a wide variety of safety & competition related projects utilizing LS-DYNA to produce engineering assessments of vehicle structures, driver restraint systems, human body models and anthropomorphic test device responses. The Simulation Engineer, Safety will broadly apply engineering principals and simulation techniques to generate novel solutions to complex challenges or improvements to existing systems. This position will also assist in the design and execution of empirical tests for model development and validation.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Develop model meshing according to project requirements from CAD
  • Create or modify existing model assemblies using appropriate materials, parts, node-based contact methods, contacts and joints as needed to meet project requirements
  • Create or modify existing LS-DYNA pre-processing keyword decks
  • Perform post-processing and data visualization for LS-DYNA simulations
  • Organize simulation results, generate draft summary conclusions, and assist in delivering presentations to department leadership and industry partners
  • Approximate travel 10%, including weekends
Required skills / experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Biomechanical Engineering and a minimum of 4 years' experience. A Master's degree (MS) is preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience using LS-DYNA for high-rate (crash) finite element analysis simulations
  • Previous exposure to crash reconstruction, crashworthiness design or impact injury biomechanics
  • The ideal candidate should have an interest in race cars and crash safety
  • Must be well organized with a strong attention to detail and have excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask across projects and duties
  • Proficiency with LS-DYNA crash analysis simulation with pre- and post-processing experience using tools such as LS-PrePost, Beta Ansa and Meta
  • Experience with building and using MATLAB or Python based pre- and post-processing scripts
  • General experience with CAD solid modeling software
