Merch Systems (MS) manages inventory and allocation, planning and purchasing, product and content, and pricing and promotions capabilities. We build, support, and extend the systems that manage these critical business functions, ensuring that that our business partners have the tools, systems, and data to successfully fill our buy anywhere / deliver anywhere across eCommerce and store channels. As you may have read in the news, our mission is to make GameStop the e-commerce leader in our space, and we're looking for software engineers with bold ideas to lead the way.

This is a local or hybrid role with occasional travel to Dallas HQ.

Responsibilities

  • Your primary activities are designing, implementing, and supporting software systems, with coding being the focus.
  • You are the technical owner of the set of services and applications in your team's space, coming up with innovative ways to create a better customer experience and drive product health.
  • You are expected to operate with a high level of autonomy, and your approaches reflect mature judgment and good design instincts.
  • You provide technical leadership through your ideas, design reviews, coding practices and conventions, and driving the SDLC.
  • You grow and mentor less experienced engineers.
  • You will collaborate with peer teams and build relationships with our business stakeholders to further our product and technical roadmaps.
  • You will support our systems in a dev ops model, driving monitoring and metrics, self-healing and DR strategies, and playbooks to minimize occurrence and impact of production incidents.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 4+ years of experience designing and implementing modern systems in production
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Scala, C++, C#.
  • Experience with SDLC processes like, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operational support.
  • Experience mentoring growing and advancing less experienced engineers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in building large scale, multi-tiered, distributed applications
  • Production experience implementing solutions with cloud services, including high performance database platforms
  • Ability to work seamlessly in both legacy and cloud platforms
  • Demonstrated engineering leadership in software design, engineering and operational excellence.
  • Experience as a technical partner in complex cross-team programs.
