Job Description

Intuitive Surgical designs and manufactures highly complex surgical systems including cameras, instruments, and accessories for use in surgery. In this role, you will manage projects associated with the development of these products and drive complex product development efforts from conception to manufacturing stability.

Responsibilities include:

  • Driving a portfolio of product design projects and ensuring design control processes are followed per relevant procedures
  • Facilitating and ensuring that complex, high-value projects are properly scoped, resourced, and communicated to minimize risk and deliver on-time and on-budget
  • Managing project schedules and budgets and providing clear communication to the organization on project status, critical path and potential areas of risk
  • Working closely with Product Development, Manufacturing, Marketing, Regulatory, and Quality organizations to ensure input and representation in the development process
  • Contributing to product prioritization decisions by providing data and analysis from current and past projects
  • Building strong informal and formal communication channels to deliver information that is accurate and up-to-date to all stakeholders
  • Organizing and guiding large numbers of distributed, cross-functional resources successfully
  • Functioning as the primary point-of-contact for key leaders and stakeholders across the organization

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience and a Bachelor's degree in relevant field; or 6+ years of experience and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years of experience; or equivalent experience
  • Experience with all phases of the product lifecyle including idea generation, concept development and testing, design, implementation, validation and transfer
  • Willingness to "go the extra mile" with a strong work ethic; self-directed and resourceful with the ability to deal with conflict and drive to a solution
  • Proven ability to lead, influence and work well at all levels of an organization and in a cross functional team environment
  • Ability to handle ambiguity effectively and oversee multiple projects at once
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize data, set actionable goals and drive metrics and execution
  • Demonstrated ability to drive for results and capable of managing multiple competing priorities simultaneously
  • Accountable and a team-player; self-motivated with high degree of initiative, urgency and follow through
  • Medical device experience is strongly preferred
  • Certification in project management (PMP) is desired
