Our work depends on a Senior Network Engineer joining our team to support our partnership with Microsoft in support of the Secure Operations Centers (SOCs).

At GDIT, we foster a people-centric environment. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will be trusted to work on a team that is providing end-to-end operational support for the Azure core and Office365 platform. Operational support is comprised of six workstreams teams: Livesite Engineering, Identity Management, Network Management, Tech Ops (Secure workspace operations), Customer Experience (CXP) and Air Gapped Cloud Training. These teams span across various product groups, including Azure, Active Directory (AAD), and Office365. The services will be 24x7x365 and operated from three Microsoft SOCs located in Redmond, WA, Reston, VA and Elkridge, MD.


This functional role is responsible for supporting management tasks within the networking function, specifically the monitoring and management of network devices and associated incidents.

In this role, a typical day may include the following:

Network Monitoring and Incident Management:

  • Provide Tier 1 support to monitor specific networks and mitigate or escalate network related incidents
  • Perform initial investigation and incident triage using Troubleshooting Guides (TSG) and SOPs

Network Engineering and Configuration Management:

  • Support network build-out projects and hardware lifecycle replacements
  • Execute specific network configuration changes using defined procedures and standard tools
  • Add, edit, or delete DNS entries
  • Assist with submitting requests for Change Advisory Board (CAB) approval

Network Security and Performance Management:

  • Add, edit, or delete router access control lists
  • Resolve IP address conflicts
  • Coordinate planned and unplanned circuit outages
  • Support periodic password resets for network systems
  • Follow Microsoft policies and procedures when performing actions on the network or active directory and other supporting services in support of Microsoft Government Online Services

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in a similar field or equivalent combination of IT training and practical IT experience
  • Clearance: Must hold an active TS/SCI with Poly
  • Skills:
  • 4+ years of experience in Network Operations
  • Managing/working with network devices
  • Ability to execute work with precision in time sensitive outage scenarios
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Basic understanding of networking to include routers, switches, circuits and architecture

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • CCNA or CCNP certification preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals (e.g. DNS, FTP, SSH, ACL, VLAN, DMZ, BGP), general networking technologies, network architecture and connectivity troubleshooting
  • Experience or exposure to a hosting providers, online services, or internet service provider environment is preferred. This time must include troubleshooting routing, switching, and load balancing in a complex networking environment
  • Thorough experience performing packet capture analysis or running Wireshark is highly desirable
