Job Description

The Laboratory Operations Manager, CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing) will work closely with the Project Managers in US and UK, taking their lead on priorities and translating information into plans to deliver our customer projects technically correct and on time. The position is a senior role reporting directly to the Head of Site. The successful individual will be expected to be equally skilled at managing people and processes in the lab, demonstrating a clear grasp of the commercial realities of a contract research environment, and managing the detail to ensure timely results, data efficacy, and a seamless audit trail.

  • Laboratory Operations Management in a fast-paced, changing environment, prioritizing, allocating, and monitoring work across team members to meet customer deadlines
  • Working closely with Project Managers and staff in other areas to ensure that Laboratory plans and resources are aligned to meet customer needs in an accurate manner
  • Achieve throughput and turnaround targets on a project, monthly and annual basis, monitoring and reporting on the productivity of the team. Report performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ensure that lab records and filing systems are organized and maintained to meet both customer and regulatory requirements
  • Establish excellent laboratory communication systems including regular meetings with the laboratory team and other key colleagues to ensure customers' needs are achieved
  • Develop a collaborative culture that encourages colleagues to support each other in problem-solving to achieve excellent and timely results for customers
  • Responsible for the quality of work within the laboratory and proactively striving for improvements, ensuring that relevant QA/QC protocols are met
  • Ensure that work conducted by the laboratory complies with the requirements and standards of the accrediting bodies
  • Ensure that all staff comply with appropriate quality systems and methods and are properly trained
  • Manage staff development and maintain skills matrix & training records to ensure continuous development of staff


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science field
  • 7+ years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in laboratory management from a pharmaceutical contract service environment and in pharmaceutical development across both analytical and formulation services
  • Knowledge of the pharmaceutical development process and GMP processes
  • Experience in a commercial environment with tight deadlines and constantly shifting priorities will be critical to success in this role
Preferred
  • A Master's degree or higher in a related science field is preferred
  • Exposure to implementing LIMS and ELN systems would be useful in the future
  • 3+ years previous supervisory experience
