Job Description:

Purpose of Job

Support technical promotion and implementation of alcohol detection product(s) into various customer applications and hardware. Bring customer insights to new the product development, sales and marketing teams through technology insights, customer focus, and process discipline to contribute to the commercial success of the company.

Supervision Received

Work is performed under the supervision of the Director of North American Mobility and Alcohol Sensor Project Leader with review to ensure that it is being performed in accordance with prescribed policies, procedures, and common practices. Work may also be reviewed through reports, feedback from customers and observations of results obtained for achievement of desired results.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Interface with OEMs/Tier-1s to help define new products for characterization and general applications testing.
  • Perform detailed analysis and evaluation and makes recommendations to resolve simple to complex business problems with the appropriate technology.
  • Identify all technical issues of OEMs/Tier-s to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the development process.
  • Responsible for actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process, working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and advocate for AKM's products, and provide training and development of the application engineering personnel of OEM/Tier-1 partners.
  • Articulate technology and product positioning to both business and technical users
  • Process improvements (testing, qualification, and implementation) for improvement, throughput, and cost reduction
  • Research, identify, plan, organize, and develop specialized programs and methodologies for quantitative and qualitative analysis and/or measurements of product performance results.
  • Lead technical presentations and product demonstrations: [equipment, accessories, and instructions] to achieve customer satisfaction.
  • Represent AKS at trade shows, conferences as a technical liaison for AKS.
  • Provide pre and post customer support including: comprehension of customer application, creation of customer demonstrations, consultation with clients for product selection & design assistance, on-site optimization, troubleshooting and general Q&A.
  • Assist in the evaluation and debug of product design.
  • Benchmark competitor products, specifications, process optimization and manufacturing transfers.

  • Considerable independent judgment is exercised in planning work details and making technical decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency to interact across various functions within Asahi Kasei including sales/ marketing new product development, planning, and manufacturing.
  • Significant knowledge and demonstrated ability to lead independent work in a project or team environment.
  • Advanced knowledge of current trends and business practices as they relate to the Alcohol Detection / Driver Monitoring fields.

Ability to:
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions and to give clear and understandable instructions.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with customers, contractors, developers, and co-workers.
  • Ability to use independent judgment without detailed instructions from supervisor.

  • Communication skills: Demonstrated advanced verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate in a team environment and present and explain technical product information and provide advice to management

Technical Skills:
  • Interpersonal skills: necessary to maintain effective working relations with all levels of personnel.
  • Broad understanding of different sensor technologies.
  • Communications interface protocol, operational amplifier fundamentals, and Infrared specifically human body radiation understanding is a plus.
  • Ability to design in (or assist customers to design in) Asahi Kasei sensor products into their various software applications and hardware.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and working experience with Windows Operating System [ability to navigate through directories/folders]

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Five years of technical management and/or product management experience at an automotive OEM or Tier-1 supplier, including customer interface.
  • Self-motivated, conscientious individual
  • Board/ System level engineering experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in customer focused, specification driven product development and commercialization in a B2B environment in electronic materials industries.
  • Research experience in a technical or scientific field.
  • 2nd Foreign language is a plus

Essential Capabilities and Work Environment
  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
  • Sitting 80%, Standing/walking 20%.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds is required.
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; talk and hear.
