Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is seeking a Senior Civil/ Environmental Engineer, with a remediation design background for work with engineering design, planning documents and project management in our Minneapolis, Minnesota office. We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and quality driven Engineer with a minimum of 15 years environmental/consulting experience, who enjoys technical challenges as well as client, regulatory agency and public interaction. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the investigation and remediation of contaminated sites in Minnesota and across the upper Midwest.

This position offers the opportunity to be a design leader on multi-discipline designs, to interact with clients and staff in Minneapolis and other Wood offices, mentor junior staff, contribute to the growth of the environmental engineering group, and collaborate with staff in multiple disciplines while executing the following roles/responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves in a lead role for site remediation projects
  • Prepares proposals and assist in the preparation of large-scale proposals including developing work scopes, task-level budgets, and cost estimates;
  • Maintains successful client relations while working on multiple projects at one time
  • Prepares design plans and specifications
  • Serves as engineer of record for select design efforts
  • Plans and oversees implementation of bench- and pilot-scale treatability studies
  • Evaluates contractor's performance against schedule, budget and scope specifications
  • Performs and/or oversees the evaluation of treatment system economics and system optimization
  • Troubleshooting and resolving treatment system operation malfunctions and deficiencies of LNAPL, SVE, groundwater pump and treat and sub-slab depressurization systems
  • Performs senior oversight of remediation or construction including junior and mid-level engineers, field technicians and subcontractors
  • Mentors junior and mid-level engineers
  • Prepares and/or reviews reports and correspondence
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites - anticipated travel expected to be less than 10%
  • Adaptability and willingness to adjust to client needs
  • Strong commitment to company's safety program; follow company safety standards, site safety standards and maintain safe workplace practices
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy


Skills / Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering, Master of Science degree in Civil/Environmental/Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • Candidate must be a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Minnesota or have the ability to obtain PE licensure in Minnesota within 6 months
  • 10+ years of design or construction experience with a focus on environmental applications in site remediation and treatment process engineering
  • CERCLA or RCRA experience with DoD or USEPA
  • Experience in the development of CERCLA and or RCRA Feasibility Studies, Proposed Plans, and Decision Documents
  • Knowledge of Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) Risk Based Site Evaluation Manual, Petroleum Remediation Program guidance, hazardous and solid waste rules, and MPCA vapor intrusion best management practices (BMPs)
  • Experience with remediation systems including means and methods associated with environmental remediation technologies and treatment systems such as soil vapor extraction, multiphase extraction, groundwater extraction/injection, LNAPL recovery, air sparging, carbon adsorption, air stripping, and oxidation
  • Experience with physical-chemical or biological treatment methods
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Must be a self-starter, team oriented, with strong work ethic
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and have excellent QA/QC skills
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in the MS Office suite

Preferred Qualifications :
  • Experience leading design projects
  • Experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
  • Experience with remediation treatment system design
  • Experience planning and performing bench and pilot-scale treatability studies
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Certification with current 8-hour refresher is preferred but not required - Wood will provide all necessary training for the selected candidate, as applicable
