Overview

Mass General Brigham's board and system-wide executive leadership are making significant investments in enterprise data and digital health, enabling innovation and transformation in the delivery of health care, research and discovery. By building out core digital and data capabilities, we are supporting the achievement of Mass General Brigham's mission to drive growth and innovation in inpatient, ambulatory, and digital care. In the achievement of these goals, Mass General Brigham's data and analytic teams are working together to build a system-wide data ecosystem. We are both leveraging current assets and building new, integrated solutions to provide a holistic set of industry-leading data and analytic capabilities, supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time insights. Teams from Data and Analytics, Research Analytics, Clinical Data Science, and Information Systems are collaborating to build this new data and analytic ecosystem. To ensure success of this effort, Mass General Brigham is standing up a new Data and Analytics operating model with a goal of driving a level of standardization for data and analytic operations across the teams involved.

The value of investments in data and analytics were proven out during our response to COVID-19 as these investments were leveraged to stand up new reporting and analytic capabilities to support executive and clinical leadership on managing the pandemic. Our broad data and analytic community has come together across Mass General Brigham 's 14 healthcare sites with shared urgency, delivering analytic tools to our system that drove timely insights in both clinical and operational domains, resulting in effective delivery of critical care and in organizational efficiencies during a time of reduced resources.

Team Description

Mass General Brigham Data Analytics Organization EDW platform and data engineering team is on the journey to build best-in-class Cloud data warehouse platform to host various data-driven products to support MGB data and analytic community. The team consists of platform architect, ETL/ELT architect, data integration and data quality engineer who work in Development and Operation scrum teams to deliver enterprise analytic solutions.

Role Summary/Overview

We are looking for a talented Senior ETL Architect to join our Platform and Data Engineering team. You will be leading ETL/ELT data warehouse design on prem and in the Azure cloud - handles both near real time and batch ETL/ELT. You will be helping data engineers, analysts and scientists perform their functions by building scalable and robust solutions. This role will give you the ability to utilize your technical leadership and drive complex cross-functional data solutions.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Hand on designing and implementing of ETL solution
  • Set technical guideline, standards and best practices to effectively leverage the functionalities of ETL tool and database engine
  • Provide optimal solutions for complex ELT/ETL production problems
  • Mentor technical design with data engineers
  • Influence for defining technical evaluation criteria for product and technology selection
  • Determine technical approaches to ensure all architectural solutions result in a coherent systems design
  • Work with stakeholders, product owners, data architect team and data engineers to ensure optimal data ingestion and integration architecture is consistent across Dev and Operation teams


Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • 5 + years of enterprise data warehouse and/or data lake experience
  • 3 + years hands-on experience in leading/managing large scale MPP enterprise data warehouse databases
  • 3 + years of experience architecting and building data ingestions and data integration solution for Enterprise Data and Analytics Solutions
  • At least one year of experience in delivering and architecting Azure or AWS data warehouse or data lake is a plus
  • Experience with Kimball modeling
  • Experts on SQL tuning and store procedure development
  • Experience with ETL tool Informatica or Talend or others

Preferred Skills, Abilities, Competencies
  • Strong SQL skills and workload management on multi-processing data platform (preferred MPP systems). Experience with Snowflake/Teradata/Oracle is a plus
  • At least one year of experience with building large data warehouse in SQL Server, SSIS is a must
  • 3 years Informatica, Talend data or other integration tool is a plus
  • Ability to troubleshoot system bottleneck and conduct performance tuning in large data warehouse or data lake
  • Experience with real time data processing and analytics products is a plus
  • Familiarity with data engineering, data governance and data quality principles
  • Healthcare experience, most notably in Clinical data, Epic, Payer data and reference data is a plus but not mandatory
  • Health Catalyst knowledge is a plus
  • Experience with logical and physical data modeling
Supervisory Responsibility
  • No direct reports; may indirectly provide leadership and guidance to less seasoned and new staff

Fiscal Responsibility
  • No direct budgetary responsibility
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by effectively using Mass General Brigham resources

Working Conditions:

MGB has implemented special remote working policies due to COVID-19. These policies are subject to change; however, it is currently expected that this position will work remotely (e.g. from home) full time through September 2021
