The Zoetis Veterinary Medicine Research and Development (VMRD) Diagnostics group is looking for a senior level electrical engineer to help build and support the next generation of veterinarian diagnostics analyzer instruments and ecosystem for companion and livestock animals around the world. The VMRD Diagnostics software team is responsible for the development of analyzer instrument firmware and software supporting the latest technology and practices. The electrical engineer will serve as a key member of the team and must be motivated, self-driven and carry out the following responsibilities.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Diagnose and debug hardware issues
  • Evaluate replacement components and impact on hardware and firmware
  • Prepare documentation for stage gate development and release activities
  • Work with firmware/software engineers to assist with board bring up activities
  • Assist with requirements elicitation and systems analysis
  • Assist with system integration, build and release activities
  • Assess system level risks and propose, evaluate, and implement mitigations
  • Ensure design meets and exceeds product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards
  • Collaboration with other development team to ensure consistency with design principles, good development practices, and team processes and procedures.
  • Adapt when changes in the business environment dictate changes in priorities to meet the customer needs.
  • Coordinate problem solving of design issues.
  • Extensive interaction with suppliers in design, analysis and other technical liaison requirements.
  • As required, produce detailed drawings, BOM's and release documents for the above design activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Advanced degree (MS/PhD) preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience working with design and implementation teams, operations (manufacturing, quality, etc.) and suppliers from an engineering and technical perspective.
  • Understanding of analog and digital circuit design, FPGA and CPL designs including Soft Core Precessors, Logic Synthesis using Verilog and VHDL, and simulation of design.
  • Demonstrated experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools for circuit board designs.
  • Demonstrated experience with high density, mixed signal, and high speed PCB Designs and Layouts
  • Familiarity and ability to develop basic device drivers and bare metal code for embedded systems.
  • Comfortable with software based hardware debugging and bringup
  • Demonstrated experience in critical thinking and problem solving skills, planning and organizing and decision-making.
  • Experience in Root cause analysis techniques and documentation.
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) or Design, Reliability & Manufacturability (DRM)
  • Excellent communication skills, influencing and leading, facilitation and team work capabilities.
  • Prior experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare, laboratory diagnostics, medical devices, or pharmaceutical companies desirable
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including negotiating, decision by consensus and problem solving.
