The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare is a national nonprofit organization leading the movement to bring compassion to every patient-caregiver interaction. We advance compassionate healthcare by training, supporting and educating caregivers on issues like burnout and the impact of trauma and by improving the patient experience through an emphasis on the human connection. More than 500 healthcare organizations in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand are Schwartz Center members who, along with another 200 sites in the U.K. and the Republic of Ireland, conduct our signature Schwartz Rounds® program. Together, we are helping more than 265,000 healthcare professionals provide more compassionate care to millions of patients. Our operational budget is funded approximately 60% by philanthropy, with funds coming from individual, corporate and foundation donors, and 40% by earned revenue, including from our membership.

ABOUT YOU:

You are an energetic, experienced fundraising professional with a successful track record of acquiring, cultivating, soliciting, and closing individual major gifts; developing an annual giving program; building and sustaining relationships with donors, volunteers and members of healthcare and/or businesses communities. You are also a strategic and results-oriented self-starter; possess strong inter-personal skills along with high integrity and work ethic; a flexible, consensus builder; a respectful team player who connects with the organization's mission and is able to communicate it in a meaningful way to existing and prospective donors. ABOUT THE WORK:

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) as well as with the Board, Honorary Board, Leadership Council and staff, the Senior Director of Development ensures the Schwartz Center's continued and successful growth in philanthropy through a focus on the major giving program. The Senior Director manages the Director of Individual Giving and has support from other operational areas. The position oversees the central component of a comprehensive fundraising program that includes major giving, campaign giving, annual giving, foundation relations, and donor stewardship. The Senior Director will closely coordinate his or her efforts with the COO who oversees corporate fundraising and major events, including the annual dinner and conference, as well as the CEO.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Direct all major donor development activities and donor "moves management"
  • Recruit and secure new, high-level donors and volunteers
  • Maintain a loyal donor base
  • Drive achievement of major donor targets in support of annual philanthropy revenue goals
  • Develop and co-lead the overall organizational development strategy with the CEO and COO
  • Increase national giving through regional and local hub initiatives outside of New England
  • Craft and communicate the Schwartz Center's case for support in coordination with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team
  • Create and oversee Board, Honorary Board and Leadership Council major giving programs and work closely with volunteers to accomplish defined fundraising objectives
  • Identify and manage a portfolio of 100+ prospects, cultivating, soliciting, and closing gifts
  • Support strategically the portfolios of the CEO, COO, and key volunteers, including through research, cultivation strategies, and ways to give initiatives
  • Work with assigned staff and volunteer solicitors to secure individual philanthropic commitments
  • Develop case strategies, plans, goals, and timelines for individual donors, and a prospect assignment program that maximizes major gift opportunities
  • With staff, strengthen the menu of giving opportunities and identify opportunities for networking and volunteering that promote the Schwartz Center's work
  • Oversee a program of individual donor stewardship, including acknowledgements and individualized reports
  • Ensure strong communication and reporting with Finance and clear accountability of donor funds
  • Oversee annual giving and foundation giving efforts in support of and in collaboration with the Director of Individual Giving and foundation consultant
  • Supervise and mentor the Director of Individual Giving

Qualifications
