The University of Chicago community includes approximately 7,000 undergraduates and 10,500 graduate, professional, and other students and there are over 400 recognized student organizations working together to create a vibrant and dynamic student life.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Athletics and Recreation, the Senior Associate Director of Athletics will work to support the mission and core values of the University and Department as a member of the leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Involved in all phases of the departmental budget preparation, submissions, special requests and general oversight of fiscal and daily budget operations.
  • Manages the purchase of practice and departmental apparel.
  • Approves all expenditures, travel, purchasing and payment of outside contractors.
  • Monitors team travel and reserves team flights.
  • Supervises Fiscal Assistant, Head Athletic Trainer, and Strength and Conditioning Coaches.
  • Reviews and approves department foreign tours and camps/clinics operations.
  • Oversees the Sports Medicine and Sports Performance operation.
  • Collects and submits data for all Federal and NCAA reporting requirements.
  • Coordinates fall pre-season and serves as the liaison to Housing and Residence Life and UChicago Dining.
  • Serves as liaison to IT Services and monitor computer replacement program.
  • Updates the department's operations manual and policies annually.
  • Develops and implements an overall recruiting plan. Determines fiscal requirements and prepares budgetary recommendations; monitors, verifies and reconciles expenditures of budgeted funds.
  • Manages a team of managers and professionals responsible for the planning, coaching, recruiting, administration, and promotion of University intercollegiate athletics programs. Ensures student-athletes and athletics representatives comply with NCAA and University rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Education:
  • Advanced degree.

Experience:
  • Seven plus years of athletic administration experience.
  • Strong financial and accounting knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Exceptional analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize and manage issues and tasks.
  • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills, and the ability to conduct research and present data in a clear and persuasive manner.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, the ability to exercise excellent judgement, effective interpersonal skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting.
