AstraZeneca discovers and develops medicines in 4 core areas of Oncology, Respiratory and Immunology (R&I), and Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolic Disease (CVRM). Oncology Safety, a global department within the Clinical Pharmacology and Safety Sciences (CPSS) function, is looking for an experienced histology technician to join their teams to develop and advance our portfolio of innovative anti-cancer medicines in Oncology R&D. As an histology technician you will work at the forefront of experimental pathology and safety science, working in a multidisciplinary environment where you will help progress a rich and diverse pipeline which includes small molecules, cutting-edge mAb-based therapeutics, antibody conjugates, next generation cellular and viral therapies.

Job Summary:
We are seeking an outstanding scientist experienced in histology to join our CPSS Pathology team. The successful candidate will provide support to the safety assessment of toxicity, pharmacodynamic, and efficacy animal studies in an exciting collaborative team environment. Specific activities for this role include routine histology techniques (tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining), immunohistochemistry, and advanced molecular techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Activities include tissue trimming, dehydration, infiltration, embedding, microtomy, mounting and sectioning of paraffin tissue blocks, preparing high quality microscope slides for pathology assessment.
  • Perform histochemical and immunohistochemical stains on a variety of preclinical study tissues using automated staining platforms (i.e. Ventana).
  • Develop immunohistochemical protocols to investigate mechanisms of toxicity
  • Prepare and maintain all necessary lab instruments and reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications.
  • Maintain digital archive of stained slides by scanning and using Aperio eSlide Manager and digital laboratory notebook
  • Perform image analysis using HALO imaging software in collaboration with pathologists and present data to project safety teams

Requirements/ Qualifications:
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in biological sciences
  • >1 year relevant histology experience
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high-quality slide production
  • Excellent communication skills, enthusiastic, self-motivating
  • Ability to work and effectively communicate in a local and global team environment
