Ideal Candidate Statement:
The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who:
1. Is a team player who works in consultation with faculty while working independently.
2. Possesses lab skills required to set up, troubleshoot, and maintain college-level labs and demos in biology and chemistry.
3. Is able to consult user manuals and implement the technical instructions therein to ensure all lab setups and demos are functional ahead of the lab sessions.
4. Has working knowledge of biology and basic chemistry principles.
5. Is familiar with the equipment used in biology and chemistry labs, and possesses skills and experiences in instrumentation cleaning and repairs.
6. Has experience in managing student workers.
7. Is able to construct and help develop lab experiments and demo setups.
8. Conducts periodic checks to ascertain the proper working condition of all equipment and, if applicable, troubleshoot and/or initiate and manage service requests to repair failing equipment.
9. Ensures that all lab and demonstration equipment is stored in a safe and organized manner, fully inventoried and documented, accessible to all users at any time of the workweek.
10. Possesses very good documentation skills, manages technical instruction sheets, lab write-ups, purchase orders, vendor information, repair and surplus orders and services while staying within budget.
11. Pays strong attention to and follows safety regulations.
12. Possesses good technical writing and verbal communication skills; helps faculty in creating and improving lab instructions and is able to explain a demonstration or lab setup to a faculty member or visitor, when needed.
13. Keeps abreast of new laboratory exercises and technologies in Biology and Chemistry, and discusses innovations with faculty.
14. Has experience in Biology and Chemistry lab in an educational or industry setting is highly desirable and preferred.

Under general supervision, the position supports science courses by setting up labs, setting up equipment, preparing specimens and other lab materials. The position is responsible for maintaining all lab equipment, materials, supply levels, and for ensuring lab materials are functional. The position is responsible for storing and disposing of hazardous waste materials.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares various solutions for laboratory activities;2. Assembles new equipment and install in the appropriate laboratory;3. Prepares equipment and materials for biology, microbiology, chemistry, anatomy, biotechnology, physics, engineering, engineering technology, and physiology laboratory demonstrations and exercises;4. Prepares aqueous and non-aqueous reagents;5. Prepares mammalian and bacterial cell cultures aseptically;6. Freezes specimens and materials to store as appropriate;7. Dispense proper quantities of materials;8. Monitors the use and cleanliness of lab equipment and materials to ensure the safety of students;9. Stores hazardous waste materials, chemicals, and specimens;10. Arranges for proper disposal of bio-hazardous waste and hazardous waste materials;11. Performs minor repairs including necessary calibrations to apparatuses and equipment;12. Enters data into various records and reports such as, but not limited to, hazardous waste reports, chemical inventories, logbook, preparation sheets, and other documents related to laboratory operations and activities;13. Schedules the use of the lab;14. Contacts vendors to resolve issues and discrepancies with equipment;15. Conducts inventory of lab equipment, supplies, and materials to ensure adequate stock levels;16. Provides lead direction to unclassified staff by developing work schedules and assigning duties;17. Assist with inputting and providing budget management support and monitor the local lab budget to ensure the availability of funds to maintain sufficient supplies for the whole academic year;18. Work with faculty to guide/make recommendation for safe laboratory activities19. Demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of the Colleges’ students, faculty, staff and community;20. Effectively engage and support historically disproportionately impacted groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.21. Apply knowledge of common science laboratory equipment to set up labs in support of instructional courses, ensure equipment is adequate operating conditions, assemble and install equipment, and properly clean and store such equipment2. Apply knowledge of common science laboratory specimens and chemicals to properly handle such items, properly store such items and set up lab materials according to instructor direction.3.
