Description:
Responsible for obtaining and validating patient information from various sources and to ensure information entered into the electronic medical record is accurate. Performs the scheduling, rescheduling and pre-registration process for all pain management patients including gathering demographic and insurance information, transcribing referral orders, managing the scheduling work queue and failed fax queue, answering of all patient calls and call backs, starting a phone call encounter, and messaging the clinical staff and practitioners as necessary. Initiates, evaluates and responds to results of real-time eligibility verification. Provides instructions to the patient on visit / procedure preparation; prints and mails patient letter and facility fee form when appropriate or emails the patient when possible. Obtains required referring physician documentation, diagnostics and orders. Other duties are as assigned.

Location: Holy Cross Health has two hospitals and four healthcare centers all a short driving distance from Washington DC and Baltimore, MD

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience within a healthcare provider performing scheduling, registration, and office administrative functions.
  • Familiarity with third party/insurance payers, medical terminology and ICD-10 and CPT coding preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer and data entry skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and email. Must be able to navigate between multiple information systems as quickly and efficiently as possible.
  • Must be able to perform audit functions in a concise, timely and professional manner to include: data retrieval and review; error identification and correction; documentation and display of data in a concise, understandable format; identification of trends; and recommendation of process/system improvements.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict management skills are essential, as decisions and judgment utilized by the incumbent impact the overall operations and workflow of the hospital and Medical Staff.
  • Exceptional communication and customer service skills (written and oral) with the ability to convey complicated information to patients and providers. Interpersonal skills are necessary in dealing with internal and external customers, including the ability to interpret customer requirements, recommend and take action to satisfy the customer's needs.
  • Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles. Must be able to manage multiple workplace demands and set realistic and attainable priorities related to such.
  • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Holy Cross Hospital.
