Essential Duties

Governance (30%)

  • Partnership oversight into absence management, safety regulatory compliance, Workers Compensation, Risk (including OSHA and related laws and regulations) relating to all aspects of Club owned fleet (COF) vehicles, Club owned auto repair facilities (COR), member service centers (MSC) and the club's headquarters, retail branch locations, back office and other office facilities.
  • Interacts with the Risk Management department and third party administrator for workers compensation claims as it relates to FMLA.
  • Plan, develop and implement Safety programs to ensure a safe workplace for all employees, regular follow up with leaders to ensure plans and programs are in place. Develop and implement programs for emergency preparedness, manage building emergencies, fire drills and other related contingency planning activities.
  • Oversight of the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) policies and procedures including job hazard standards, tools to identify and establish safe work practices, hazard corrective action, accident investigations, safety communications, ergonomics training and record keeping.
  • Develop and implement effective safety training programs for managers and employees.
  • Conduct training as needed to ensure compliance with all applicable OSHA standards and to improve focus on safety.

Records Maintenance & Reporting (40%)

  • Coordinate and manage all regulatory reporting requirements to government agencies, including OSHA, EPA, CalEPA, State Board of Equalization and others.
  • Serve as the primary interface with OSHA on all compliance and enforcement actions.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of all OSHA regulations to ensure safe operation throughout the MWG footprint.
  • Create an organized process to track ergonomic reports and supply ordering process for increased efficiency.

Audits/Safety Inspections (30%)

  • Conduct Safety Compliance audits and Gap Analysis throughout the Mountain West group footprint, to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with Local, State, and Federal officials during agency inspections and other requests.
  • Investigate work-related injuries and illnesses, implement actions that prevent re-occurrence and prepare required reports and record keeping.
  • Implement necessary actions that correct and maintain compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Investigate employee safety complaints, discuss findings and recommend possible solutions in a timely manner.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Environmental Health and Safety Program management
    - Develop or manage Environmental Health and Safety programs to ensure a safe workplace for all employees. (Advanced)
  • Emergency Preparedness
    - Process of ensuring that the organization has complied with the preventive measures, is in a state of readiness to contain the effects of a forecasted disastrous event to minimize loss of life, injury, and damage to property, can provide rescue, relief, rehabilitation, and other services in the aftermath of the disaster, and has the capability and resources to continue to sustain its essential functions without being overwhelmed by the demand placed on them. (Advanced)
  • Risk-mitigation
    - Identification, assessment, and prioritization of risks followed by application of resources to minimize, monitor, and control the probability of unfortunate events. (Advanced)
  • Vendor management
    - Create and monitor vendor relationships. Negotiating and monitoring the length and substance of contracts. Stay up to date on new technologies. Maintain contact with current and new vendors.
  • Reporting
    - Ability to see, understand and act upon data with the goal to enable end-users to see data so that they can analyze it and make it understandable through analysis. Reporting deals with data, while analysis is what turns the data into information. (Intermediate)
  • Training and Development
    - Design and conduct training and development programs to improve individual and organizational performance. (Advanced)
  • Safety Inspection
    - Adept at following the formalized and properly documented process of identifying hazards in the workplace. (Advanced)

Education and Experience

  • Degree in Business, Environmental Studies or related/equivalent EH&S experience. (Required)
  • 4+ years direct professional experience focused on safety, environmental and occupational health (Preferred)
  • Valid driver's license, certification and licenses (Required)
  • Proven analytical, statistical, organizational, communication and presentation skills. (Preferred)
  • Experience implementing OSHA standards. (Required)
