Basic Job Functions:
The Safety Engineer will have direct responsibility for the development, implementation, and management of Nucor Hertford's Safety Programs. They should be able to demonstrate the knowledge of OSHA compliance with federal, state & local regulations; written safety/operating procedures and policies; safety management system, workers' compensation, ergonomic compliance, and industrial hygiene monitoring; and participate in the NC Star administration. They will work closely with the EHS team and the entire division to develop, organize, & administer safety orientation and training; plan, conduct, & coordinate safety meetings; participate in and/or lead safety focus groups; coordinate safety policies/programs with onsite contractors. Teammate will be able to maintain safety/health/incident records; compile, review, & report injury/illness statistics and OSHA 300/300A logs; provide record keeping requirements for worker's compensation and safety training records, establish safety policies/programs to promote team member safety at all levels; track/review safety data and use analytical tools to identify trends and opportunities for improvement; maintain our Safety programs, and compliance issues. This position reports directly to the EHS Supervisor, works day shift, Monday through Friday and is on call 24/7 as a safety resource for the Nucor Hertford team.
