Job Description
PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The purpose of a Radiation Therapy Nurse is to coordinate total nursing care for radiation therapy patients. Participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by working cooperatively with patient team personnel and other ancillary nursing personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice.

JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Duty 1: The radiation therapy nurse will use the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the radiation therapy patient's condition and nursing needs in a timely manner to provide appropriate nursing action for the unique physical and emotional needs of each patient.

Duty 2: The radiation therapy nurse will provide for the client and /or family education and plans for the client and/or family education and plans for educational methodology to be used. They will document the responses in the RT medical records.

Duty 3: The radiation therapy nurse will collaborate with the Radiation Oncologists and other involved physicians regarding patient condition, orders, treatment plan and anticipated needs to ensure exceptional patient care.

Duty 4: The radiation therapy nurse observes and reports to appropriate personnel or other establishments any necessary repairs and/or problems related to the maintenance of exam rooms and nursing areas.

Duty 5: The radiation therapy nurse completes daily assignments and prepares for the next day efficiently and timely to keep department flow.

Duty 6: The radiation therapy nurse monitors supplies to continually offset adverse impact of potential situations dealing with supply shortage.

Duty 7: The radiation therapy nurse will maintain proper order of all charts accurately and timely to provide order and organization for accurate patient care.

Duty 8: Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
• Current Ohio License as a Registered Nurse.
• Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.
• Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills.
• Individual must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on his/her assigned unit/department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient status. Must be able to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the area's policies and procedures.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

• One (1) year of previous cancer nursing experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires a full range of body motion with intermittent walking, lifting, bending, climbing, squatting, kneeling, twisting, sitting and standing. The associate will be required to stand, walk, and sit for extensive periods of time. This position requires the employee to lift fifty pounds. The associate must have excellent eye-hand coordination and reach work above the shoulders. This position requires corrected vision and hearing in the normal range. Associate must have excellent verbal communication skills to assist the patients, and physicians.

This position is classified "at risk" for possible occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens (HBV, HIV, etc.)
