The West Virginia University Research Corporation is seeking applications for Research Technician with the Department of Microbiiology, Immunology  and Cell Biology.   This position will study epigenetic mechanisms of drug resistance of hematological cancers in the bone marrow microenvironment. The lab utilizes genome-wide sequencing assays to characterize epigenetic regulation of drug resistance induced by microenvironment and explores novel therapeutic ways to overcome the resistance. 

The qualified candidate should have strong communication skills, be self-motivated, detail oriented, able to work in a collaborative setting, and have strong knowledge and experiences on molecular and cell biology. Work effort has significant impact on client services and operations, producing moderate to major organizational, legal and financial results and/or liabilities. The position expects skills on RNA-Seq and abilities to implement other NGS assays such as ATAC-Seq and CUT&Tag.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Supporting routine laboratory operation, such as preparation of reagents, maintenance of cells, and preparing NGS libraries.
  • Assisting in implementing new NGS protocols
  • Training undergraduate students.
  • Preparing manuscript and grant submissions.
  • Presenting in scientific meeting.
     


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or related science field and or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six (6) months of experience working in a research laboratory. Undergraduate research/laboratory experience acceptable. Relevant experience in a biological research laboratory setting include the application of NGS-based genome wide profiling assays is preferred.
  • Ability to work with cell lines.
  • Skilled in cell culture techniques.
  • Skilled in standard cell and molecular biology techniques, such as DNA and RNA purification, cloning, PCR, western blotting.
  • Skilled in sequencing library preparation: RNA-Seq.
  • Strong knowledge of immunology, molecular and cell biology, protein biochemistry and/or animal models.
  • Skilled communication in English.
  • Skilled at using scientific rules and methods to solve problems.
  • Skilled at strategic planning for research program development.
  • Ability to document experiment procedure and present the results of research.
  • Ability to write articles for publication and conference presentation.
  • Demonstrates group presentation skills, participates in meetings, is responsive and speaks clearly and persuasively to technical and non-technical audiences. Writes and edits clearly and informatively, varies style to meet needs, and presents/interprets data (numeric, formulas, graphs etc) effectively.
  • Skilled in problem solving: define questions, gathers and analyzes information, identifies problems, seeks alternatives, and works well in team and resolves matters timely.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, as well as prepare, present and report results effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams of co-investigators and other researchers.
