Job Info

The Democracy Initiative Center and the College and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences seeks a Research Program Manager for the Equity Center, reporting to the Director of Equitable Analysis.

The Democracy Initiative Center for the Redress of Inequity Through Community-Engaged Scholarship (the "Equity Center") is the University of Virginia's newest collaborative multi-disciplinary center, established in August 2019. The Equity Center tangibly redresses racial and socioeconomic inequality in university communities by advancing a transformative approach to universities' fundamental research mission, which will in turn reform institutional values, pedagogy and operations. Specifically, the Equity Center will change the way that University of Virginia (UVA) scholars interact with members of the surrounding community, replacing a model that has been extractive with one that is respectful and collaborative and conducts research that benefits communities. This approach will be a model for institutions of higher education domestically and globally to leverage their anchor positions in local communities to eradicate racial and socioeconomic inequity.

The Research Programs Manager has three fundamental roles, all of which require exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the highest standards of integrity: (1) to actively contribute to and facilitate the research practice partnerships of the Equity Center, supporting engagement and collaboration between community partners and Equity Center researchers; (2) to participate in and manage action-oriented research efforts, helping to bridge community-driven questions with appropriate methods and processes; and (3) to support the research programs and research community through project management, communication of research insights, and technical assistance.

  • Collaboratively plan and fully participate in meetings with members of the relevant research teams, community advisory teams, and resident changemakers across multiple projects, helping to set agendas, synthesize knowledge and actions, contribute to collaborative understanding, and maintain community collaborations and trust.

  • Contribute to and track completion of deliverables and adherence to timelines for multiple research projects, identifying milestones and timelines across research projects, and learning and instituting necessary workflows.

  • Engage in research activities, including background research and literature reviews, data discovery and collection, and implementation of qualitative and quantitative analysis.

  • Collaborate with the Equity Center staff to communicate project progress, research deliverables, and related information, promoting dissemination to diverse audiences and through multiple channels.

  • Assist the Director of Equitable Analysis and the Director of Community Research to support account maintenance, reconciliation, and financial reporting for Equity Center Research projects.

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned by the Equitable Analysis

  • Ability to develop, articulate and implement organizational vision.
