Job Overview

The Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality (GCPI) seeks a paid Research Intern to support its Economic Security & Opportunity Initiative. The center works with policymakers,
researchers, practitioners, and advocates to develop effective policies and practices to
alleviate poverty and inequality in the United States.

The Research Intern provides support to staff, primarily through research assistance, but also through project coordination, meeting logistics, communications, and other activities in duties that include bur are not limited to:

  • Provides qualitative and quantitative research assistance and analysis for a range of issues relating to poverty and inequality
  • Documents and performs figure drafting, editing, review, and formatting
  • Coordinates and provides administrative support for convenings, events, meetings
  • Performs miscellaneous assistance, including with communications, development, operations, or other activities


Work Interactions

Reporting to a Senior Policy Analyst, who in turn reports directly to the Co-Executive Director of the Georgetown Center on Poverty and Inequality, the Research Intern has no supervisory role.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Background in policy analysis and research
  • Preferred qualifications
  • A commitment to GCPI's mission
  • Excellent research, writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge and experience with issues related to poverty, economic justice, social inclusion, racial equity, gender equity, and/or disability rights (including lived experience)
  • Familiarity with the Census Bureau's American Community Survey
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Race, class, and gender equity and inclusion values and experience
  • Ability to organize and manage competing priorities, tasks and deadlines
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning
