Job Info

The Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks multiple Research Associates to conduct research on physiologic or pathological cell plasticity. Dr. Lian-Wang Guo's laboratory conducts research on how epigenetic effectors transmit environmental cues into chromatin remodeling and cell state transitions. They aspire to understand how their interplay shapes specific cell states. The laboratory also performs translational research by targeting pathological cell plasticity to treat vascular disease or retinal degeneration.

Qualified candidates are expected to have mastered molecular/cell biology and biochemical approaches. Experience in animal work or bioinformatics is preferred but not required. The incumbent can choose between vascular and retinal projects.

Postdoctoral employment is temporary and is normally limited to an individual who has been awarded a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate within the previous five years and who will be involved in full-time research or scholarship at the University. Employment as a Postdoctoral Research Associate is viewed as training and is preparatory for a full-time academic or research career, is supervised by a senior scholar, and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship during the training period.
