The Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Research Assistant to work on the UHealth Campus. The Research Assistant contributes with research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. Further, the Research Assistant performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities. The Research Assistant will perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests to obtain data for research purposes. This individual will conduct laboratory methods utilizing the latest methodologies in molecular and cell biology in support of sponsored research, review scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.

  • Work-related knowledge in tissue culture, molecular biology and genetics laboratory test techniques such as PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, cloning of cDNA sequences, amplification of DNA sequences by PCR, protein expression techniques, protein purification, plasmid analyses by restriction digest, protein gel electrophoresis, DNA gel electrophoresis, Northern blotting, Western blotting, Southern Blotting, siRNA/DNA transfections, are preferred.
  • Work related knowledge in Direct PCR, Phusion, and Tropism Assays, HIV virus production, and envelope cloning for HIV.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Excellent English language skills (both verbal and written) required.
  • Collaborate with other employees, good organizational skills, and excellent computer skills required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
  • Commitment to the University's core values.
  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.
