Overview

LRP is seeking a Reporter / Editor (Hybrid) to develop advice-driven content for its Special Ed Connection® website and accompanying print and electronic products that provide school administrators with legal compliance and practical advice to serve students with disabilities.

The Editor/Reporter has ownership of, and is responsible for, producing timely content with a focus students with disabilities. Work product will include stories, charts, quick tips, books, and e-learning courses.

  • Proven ability to write clearly and concisely and appropriately structure stories

Responsibilities

  • Conduct phone and email interviews to elicit advice-driven information.
  • Filing a minimum of 5 stories per week for Special Ed Connection® and its accompanying print materials.
  • Periodically cover breaking news.
  • Learn about our subscribers and the issues that most concern them and use that information to contribute to an annual editorial calendar.
  • Contribute to a weekly information sharing memo for the Education Group.
  • Contribute to a monthly publication plan for Special Ed Connection.
  • Identify and send to our Documentation Collection Specialist sample forms and tools (letters, checklists, charts) on a weekly basis.
  • Write on a weekly basis 2-3 sentence Quick Tips that offer actionable compliance advice to be used on the website and in print products.
  • Work with outside authors to update existing print products and develop new products.
  • Suggest new product ideas and eventually write ancillaries on the topics of discipline, specific disabilities, and early childhood.
  • Become a subject-matter expert in the position's focus areas.
  • Develop and maintain a pool of expert sources in the field.
  • Manage workflow and assigned tasks daily into Wrike.
  • Attend company conferences as needed.
Special Ed Connection® is an online, subscriber-based resource for PreK-12 school personnel and attorneys. This website details news and developments in special education and provides in-depth coverage and practical expert advice focused specifically on IDEA and Section 504 compliance, early childhood, behavior & discipline, technology, specific disabilities, and legal decisions, among other issues. Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 4+ years of reporting and/or writing experience.
  • Ability to work a hybrid schedule, which includes 2 days in our Palm Beach Gardens, FL office.
  • Knowledge of Editorial and Production processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AP Style.
  • Familiarity with publishing software along with basic Microsoft Office.
  • Availability to travel up to five days at a time, including weekends, one to two times per year.

It would be nice if you have......
  • Previous experience working in K-12-related reporting, writing, or editing.
  • Previous experience or knowledge of Section 504.
  • Working knowledge of Wrike project management software.
