Occ Summary

Plan and provide advanced and/or specializedn ursing care for patientsin accordance with guidelinesestablished within the Discipline ofNursing Clinical Ladder Program; participate in educat ional activities,departmental committees, research projects or other hea lth relatedprojects as assigned. Provide nursing services to patients an dfamiliesin accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the NorthC arolinaBoard of Nursing.


Work Performed

Identify careneeds for patient populations at the unit level. Provideleadership inthe development of standards of care, patient/familyeducation and staffeduc ation to address the needs of specificpopulations.Participate in educati onal activities, departmental committees, researchprojects and otherheal th-related projects as assigned.Provide direction and guidance in the pr oper use, care and control ofmaterial resources; appraise quality and ef fectiveness of material andequipment and communicateto responsibleindiv iduals.Anticipate potential safety concerns in the environment of care a ndintervene.Guide the professional growth of others at the unit level th roughprecepting, role modeling, coaching and/or mentoring.Provide leader ship at a unit level for initiativesdesigned to improvethe qualityof ca re or clinical outcomes for populations of patients andgrowth of others. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Level Characteristics

The Clinical Nurse III provides l eadership at the unit level. The CNIIIindependently andcreatively implem ents the nursing process forindividual patientsand identifies needs and plans care for unit patientpopulations. The CNIII is positive during cha nges and supports growth ofpeers. The CNIII isable toeffectively communi cate with all members ofthe health care team.


Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN program. Exception: Registered nurses hired between July 1, 2014 and April 11, 2021 without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) are expected to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date but must complete the program within five years of their start date. Registered nurses hired before July 1, 2014 are not required to enroll in a BSN program to remain in this job classification.


Experience

Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required. At a manager's discretion, employees with 6 months of experience who are exceptional performers may be eligible for this level.


Degrees, Licensures, Certifications

Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required.
