Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Radiology Service Technician repairs and maintains imaging related medical equipment. The Radiology Service Technician performs project management duties.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health's mission: Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. Models Eskenazi Health values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and Excellence
  • Provides professional technical service and support to ensure the high quality and cost effective management of the medical imaging equipment within the assigned area(s) of Eskenazi Health and other locations supported by the Biomedical Engineering Department
  • Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, calibrates and verifies performance of the assigned imaging equipment and systems, in accordance with Biomedical Engineering policies and processes, to demonstrate compliance with the requirements of the Medical Equipment Management Program.
  • Performs, coordinates and/or directs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on medical imaging devices, and general care equipment as necessary, using established guidelines from the manufacturer and/or other policies and procedures as applicable.
  • Performs and oversees various appropriate medical imaging equipment modifications as assigned as a part of equipment recalls/modifications or related to hospital staff requests.
  • Performs troubleshooting, service, and repair of medical imaging and related equipment; service may also include installation and calibration
  • Ensures safety as related to medical imaging equipment and its use to include: acceptance inspection for new equipment, safety inspections from borrowed and/or rental equipment, scheduled safety and operational inspection of current inventory, while following appropriate sterile procedures.
  • Responsible for documenting work activity both in equipment maintenance software and on appropriate forms when required, in a timely manner.
  • Understands and provides guidance to others when working with the guidelines established by National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), The Joint Commission, Indiana State Board of Health, EPA, OSHA and Eskenazi Health's Biomedical Engineering Department.
  • Attends departmental meetings and is responsible for changes in departmental protocol (i.e. changes in work order coding, asset entry guidelines etc.).
  • Possesses mentoring skills and are frequently assigned work study and intern students to manage; offers feedback on students' progress and skills.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of medical imaging network systems
  • Prioritizes and implements preventive maintenance program which includes documentation of results and testing of equipment. Creates PM procedures and forms for imaging equipment.
  • Provides feedback and evaluation on individuals assigned to projects within area of responsibility.
  • Fabricates and modifies equipment as required, deciding whether parts conform to specifications and are, therefore, usable.
  • Works closely with Biomedical Engineering Director to recommend and justify imaging equipment replacement thru the capital equipment process.
  • Serves as a member of Environment of Care Radiation Safety Sub-Committee.
  • Assigned project leadership responsibilities for prioritizing tasks and supervising individuals assigned to the project. Oversees projects from assignment to conclusion and documents progress accordingly. Is prepared to offer feedback on individuals assigned to project and regularly communicates with management regarding deadline completion / roadblocks and needed resources.
  • Assists with medical device network security controls and audits.
  • Works with Information Security Officer to understand HIPAA and ePHI requirements and ensures compliance for Biomedical Engineering staff.

Job Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering
  • AAMI certification
  • Minimum of 3 years of Biomedical Engineering experience
  • Relevant information technology certifications/training preferred (e.g. A+/Net+, MCSE/MCSA, CCNA/CCDP/CCIE, CNE, PMI/PMP, CCSA, etc.)
  • Imaging service experience preferred
  • Valid Indiana driver's license that meets Eskenazi Health's driving policy requirements

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of electronic circuits and related information
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of medical terminology
  • Basic knowledge/understanding of pneumatics and plumbing.
  • Effectively communicate with written and oral skills to clinical hospital staff, departmental personnel and vendors.
  • Utilize Microsoft office applications for communications and educational presentations.
  • Maintain an orderly and efficient work space contained within your assigned area.
  • Knowledge of physical sciences as it applies to the area of medical instrumentation and devices.
  • Maintain knowledge and commitment toward job specific measured competencies.
