Description: Our client is currently seeking a R&D Engineer II
This position is responsible for the research & development of casted and injection molded polarized lenses as well as polarized film extrusion, forming, cutting processes for ophthalmic lenses of various optical materials.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Create and maintain standard machine set-ups and database for casting, injection molding and polarized film processes, within R&D.
Collect, analyze and report out experimental results.
Optimize new and existing casting, injection molding and polarized film processes. Scale up casting and injection molding processes working with manufacturing and demonstrate cost and yield targets in R&D.
Assist in transferring new casting, injection molding and polarized film processes from R&D to Manufacturing plant in Mexico.
Solve process and equipment-related issues
REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Materials engineering or related field required.
1-3 years of previous process research experience preferred.
5-7 years of related industry experience
Ability to identify and maintain priorities for tasks and projects.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment, both independently and with a team.
Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships across disciplines and with multiple levels of management.
Strong communication and technical skills.
Knowledge of statistics and lean/six sigma
Experience utilizing statistical process software
Able to set priorities, quickly adopt to change and learn continuously
Self-motivated, well organized and able to work independently Fluent in English, both written and spoken
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Experience in polymer casting processes
Process development for new and existing polymers for ophthalmic lenses using casting and injection molded processes
Understand, troubleshoot and improve existing casting and injection molding processes
Ensure process capability of casting and injection molding processes
Work with manufacturing in new product scale-up, process optimization, process validation and technology transfer. Lean/Six Sigma certification
Project Management Certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform procedures as required ensuring safe and efficient processes Ability to lift-up to 40 pounds
Must have auditory, verbal, tactile, and factory skills to assume required responsibilities
Some duties may require constant standing or sitting for hours at a time
